this may be related to the Brinks/ADT/Home Alarm trouble people have had but those solutions haven't resolved my problem.
I have a security gate with a Sentex Spectrum -101 telephone keypad hooked up to a Vonage line for people to call in for access. The problem is that no calls are going through when the keypad dials out.
What I get is a Vonage recorded message indicating that the number dialed is incorrect. This is better than the fast busy I was getting before I had Vonage lower the packet size to .1
I have hooked up a regular telephone handset to the keypad terminals and was able to place telephone calls with no problem. The keypad's dialing speed isn't too fast since I can punch in numbers faster than it does and still get through..
So obviously it's a problem between the sentex system and Vonage but is there a way to get it to work?
Right now the Vonage line is: 1. RT31P2 2. set for .1 packet size (at least that's what the Vonage tech said he'd do, is there a way to confirm?) 3. firmware #2.0.12(LI) 4. 90kbps sound quality 5. ~356k upstream and set for 256k QoS
I'd hate to have to activate a new POTS line for it but that may be the only option. |

I'm having the exact same problem. Strangely...it worked for a little whole, then stopped and is doing the same thing. How do you fix this?

My guess would be that the key pad needed to be programed for 11 or 10 digit dialing, buy you should wait to hear what jmcanedo has to say. |

dconner: Not sure I undestand why it would have to be. The number I am having it dial is a local one, so it shouldn't need to dial anything crazy. It is atlanta so you need to dial the area code (since we have two in the metro area) but that's all, and it does that. It just rings through with no answer, ever...so it never even gets to my answering machine that's hooked up. However, I can place calls and receive calls perfectly fine. What's weirder...it used to work for a month or so and I don't believe I have changed anything in the setup.

Well, Atlanta is your town, so you would know better, but i recall reading here: http://www.vonage-forum.com/review10.html that Vonage does 7 digit dialing in Atlanta. |

Actually, you are both correct. Atlanta has three: 404, 770 and 678. My Vonage number is a 678 area-code therefore, I can dial any 678 number using 7 digit-dialing. I know this as my cell phone is also a 678 number as is the pizza place down the street.
However, my next door neighbor has a 404 area code (as well as my other pizza place down the street) and yet another neighbor three doors down has a 770 which means I have to dial the 10 digit number for either. (I've tried it with both 7-digit & 10-digit) So . . . same area-code= 7 digit dialing. Different area code= 10 digit dialing (without that pesky "1" prefix).
[Edit] BTW: with B*llS*uth you had to dial 10 digits, regardless. |

dconnor and Apexdv: Regardless...their box was dialing (404), my area code, along with the # so that's not the reason.

Absolutely. I was just confirming the 7 digit / 10 digit capability with Atlanta as my review was mentioned. I suppose I should have stated that. As far as the gate issue: I haven't a clue.
I've seen several posts regarding the topic and have been watching them as a matter of curiosity. My HOA is considering a vote to gate the community with a similar system so this is of particular interest for me as a number of residents here have Vonage and other Voip providers. |

Apexdv: Gotcha...I think it's cause it was a Motorola v1000 and had problems with DTMF. They're sending me a Linksys one so we'll see how that goes.

I have a Linksys RT31P2 so keep us posted.
