Anyone find the dial tone change REALLY annoying when you dial for caller ID block? UHHH it goes right through my head...Of course you want a different pitch dial tone to let the user know he just activated something, but they should really use a lower frequency!!!

I believe this tone is being generated by your ATA. While not standardized as such the ITU has put out recommendations.

Dial Tone: It is recommended that dial tone be either a single
frequency tone in the range 400 to 450 Hz, or a combined tone composed of
up to three frequencies, with at least one frequency in each of the ranges
340-425 Hz and 400-450 Hz. The difference between any two frequencies
should be at least 25 Hz.

When adopting a new single frequency dial tone, Administrations are
recommended to use 425 Hz.

I am curious what equipment you are using and if you had this feature previously and notice a difference. I have a Motorola VT1000v, when I enable caller id block I get a stutter and a normal dial tone.

that's what I had with verizon pots (stutter). but with Vonage RT31P2 I get that annoying high pitched tone also.

I am also using the LinkSYS...I would prefer the stutter, but does that ever screw you up when you have a voice-mail??

I rarely have voice mails, but as I recall a voice mail stutter occurs when you first pick up the handset, the tone then goes steady. The confirmation stutter for caller id block occurs after you dial the code.

So you have stutter -> steady -> dial code (no dial tone) -> stutter -> steady.

Even if you were really fast, the dial tone stops while you are dialing the caller id blocking code so I don't think there is room for confusion.
