I currently manage a company Avaya PBX. Has anyone heard of anyone using Vonage connected to the PBX? If so any information would be appreciated.

go to http://www.vonage-forum.com/searchforums.html search and type in avaya in the search box. there are a few results, but unfortunately nothing very substantial. here are a couple other posts I found at another site.

You can administer the outputs from your Vonage terminal adapter as any other "Loop Start" trunk. The only problem is that you probably will not get current interruption with the far end disconnects. That means a call on hold won't drop off hold if the distant end hangs up.

I use it on my Avaya Definity PBX with no problems.

thanks for the info. What pbx are you referring to? I have a definity g3si and g700/s8300's. For 30 users is there a certain package you have to buy from Vonage for that many people? What is the equipment needed and how is it connected?

Thanks again

You can use it with a G3SI or S8300, yes. The amount of bandwidth required for that many trunks would probably be excessive. I would discuss your needs with an enterprise Voip vendor such as Broadvox Direct or with your local IT department.

You could also contact Avaya's Manged Services organization for their new offering on Hosted Voip solutions for business.

I was referring to one or two lines going into the PBX but not a large number of them.

I would suggest a gateway based on port size with a Vonage Business Plus plan...

First I determine hardware..... maybe Epygi T1 gateway??

then sign up through this easy link...

http://www.vonage-forum.com/vlink4.html

does the pbx do SIP?

Cool. Didn't know Vonage did high-density Voip like that. Yes, the PBX can do limited SIP but later releases will front-end full connectivity to accept a feed directly. That is not out there yet on current software. Release 2.1 of Avaya Communication Manager will support SIP end-user devices. The 3.0 release in April will have many more features.

I use a Norstar Modular Integrated Communications System (MICS ) v3 For my Home/Home Office for Lines 3 and 4 -- Personally, if someone switched them around without telling me, I wouldn't know the difference between them or Lines 1/2 (POTS through MCI).

With the MICS, I have about 15 extensions installed thruought the house, and it seems to work flawlessly with my Vonage lines.

It seems to work great! No problems seen yet.
