Regarding the issue of getting caller name to display on caller id of outgoing calls, this thread has taken place:

Now, can someone from Vonage explain why outgoing Caller name is not available?


Ok, so I am trying to draw attention to that research because if the Accudata Salesperson was correct in claiming that her company could get this thing done for Vonage, then it would be a plus for me. I was disappointed when I subscribed to Vonage and later found that my name would not be displayed on outgoing calls, but maybe this is something that could be fixed without as much trouble as some think.

This appears to be a very technically challenging question for some of us (myself included), but could it hurt for Vonage to give a full hearing to someone from Accudata?

It would be nice to see this happen, and to get some sort of ideas on what other improvements are being made or considered.

I am just not convinced that it is as simple as Accudata makes it out to be.

In the other thread it was mentioned that Accudata required permission from a carrier before it could accept updates from a company.

As I understand the situation from the LNP issues, Vonage is not the carrier but rather uses third parties to manage local numbers. It would then be the responsibility of those parties to register the Caller Name, or assign the rights to registering them to Vonage or to a group of Vonage users who wanted to establish a Vonage listing service.

Before settling on Accudata, you had better find out who they have reciprocal agreements with. Otherwise you may end up having your name entered in a database that is rarely used for lookups.

There are also other CNAM providers who might be less strict about who performs the CNAM updates.

Thanks for the feedback on my question.

Your technical points are going partly over my head, but I think my response is simply, let's get this fully investigated. If Accudata is not the one, then let's have some other way to do this, if some other way can be found. Having our full accurate info displayed on caller id, when we so desire, is not an entirely trivial feature, IMO.

But your point about being careful with seeing what Accudata really can and can't do is taken. There's no reason for Vonage to rush to get into a bad deal. Better that they should investigate all options, without obligating themselves until they can make an informed decision.
