PostPosted: Mon Feb 07, 2005 7:52 am    Post subject: Best Method to Transfer Number Reply with quote Back to top

I recently signed up for Vonage but chose to get a second phone number to try out the service. The service appears to be satisfactory and now I want to transfer my old number to Vonage.

There appears to be two ways I can transfer my existing telecom phone number to Vonage. I can fill out the application at Vonage.com that generates an authorization form in PDF format and fax it to Vonage. It also appears that I can log onto my Vonage account and request a number change via a link under billing.

Is there any advantage to using one method or the other? They appear to ask for slightly different information.

there are no ways around filling out and faxing the paperwork and recent phone bill.

It is now February 07, 2005 . And the status of the transfer order says
" Current Status: Transfer in Process ".
Meanwhile I am being sucker-punched by bills from 2 carriers for the same number. Each time I write to Vonage they say the order is in progress.
Anybody else in this situation ?

Hello,

I see you submitted your form on Sept 23. So technically you should not be credited from Sept to Oct (due to the 20 day - transfer policy) but from there on you should be credited on our side so you are not double billed.

If you are not being credited I sincerely apologize and I will personally make sure when i get back into work tomorrow (days off Sun/Mon) to credit you and call you when it is complete. (Will take me a few seconds).
I know the credit can be just a consolation but it is something.

If you have not been credited I can contact the transfer group or I can bring this to the attention of a supervisor, or you can. Do you have a ticket number I can try to escalate for you?

What is your crediting situation? Have you been credited? Have you gotten any reason why your transfer has been delayed?

Even though the link through my web account shows no such requirement? It does seem appropriate that the paperwork would need to be filed. So, it may not matter either way as the form must be faxed. Neither method will result in faster processing?

Speed in processing number transfers seems to be a common complaint. I am assuming that my old number will continue to function via my current telecom until the transfer is complete at which time Vonage will take over.

do it through the web and specify you're porting a number. if it doesn't ask for paperwork then it needs to be updated or you aren't reading everything it says. lnp has a standard method industrywide, Vonage isn't speicial.

This is not standard method for LNP. Because ATT callvantage just do on phone. Nothing to submit but yes Have to wait one week to transfer. But I am with Vonage Because I am saving almost $8 dollar per month

but is that transferring an AT&T owned number?
I've done lnp a couple times with different providers and the method was always the same.
regardless, I shouldn't have made a 100% positive statement like that.

Response from SBC regarding the status of the so called transfer request.
-----------------
I would like to extend my sincerest apology for the problems you
encountered with leaving SBC to go to another company. We cannot
find any order ever submitted from another company. You have been an
excellent customer and their would not be any reason
we would stop you from being ported out.

The only thing would be that we would regret losing a good customer
like you. Your account does not have any restriction to prevent any
orders and your account is in excellent status payment wise.

You need to contact the other company you are trying to go to and
have their porting department get in contact with our porting
department to get the issue resolved. Nothing is indicated for your
XXX-2326 number and no orders were found. We look forward to
continuing to serve you.

But there are no transaction ID's that I can quote for a credit request.

Vonage would like to apologize for the delay in reviewing your
documents. At the time Vonage successfully reviewed your request it
was sent to the carrier for further processing. At this time Vonage
is working with the carrier to complete your transfer in a timely
fashion. As soon as we can obtain a transfer date from the carrier we
will contact you immediately.

#932391 Thu, 25 Nov 2004
------------------------
Thank you for contacting Vonage number portability, we have received
your correspondence. We will request an update on the status of your
transfer. You will be notified by email as your transfer progresses and
a date is set.. .....Due to overwhelming demands for transfers, some
requests have been delayed because the carriers are backed up.
....It would be best to wait until the transfer is
completed so that an appropriate credit can be issued for the total
length of your delay. Please contact us about this when it is
completed.

#781907 Mon, 8 Nov 2004
-------------------------
I am contacting you to inform you of your number transfer. I have
requested a status from Vonage's carrier that is handling your
request. As soon as we obtain a finalized transfer date we will
contact you immediately. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

#800149 Thu, 14 Oct 2004
------------------------------
In response to your email, Vonage is billing you for your virtual
number not your number from your previous carrier. (Your virtual
number 1------). Since there was a a resubmission to your
carrier (xo)on Wed Oct 13, it can take an additional 20 days, if 20
days go by and the number is still not transferred give us a call and
you will be accredited.
----------------------------

#781907 Mon, 11 Oct 2004
----------------------------------
We apologize for the delay in responding to you. Unfortunately we do
not have a tentative date for you yet. The process takes a minimum of
20 business days. If the number transfer is delayed, we will credit
your account after it past the 20 business days. Please feel free to
contact us if you have further question.
