I am a new customer, about a week now, and I LOVE the service! I have a local number and a virtual number in Canada that works great! I have noticed 2 things though. First, it appears that the recipient of my out going calls hear me at a low level, distant they say. However they sound great to me. However, if I receive a call, both ends sound GREAT! Secondly, the "comfort" hiss that I hear, can it be lowered? I am using the Linksys RT31P2 and am using it as my router, with a belkin wireless access point behind it. Nothing fancy. As I said I LOVE the service! Just curious if anyone else has had the same results.

1. Call Vonage and ask that the gain be turned up on your account.

2. Insert an old phone into the empty second phone port on the back of your RT31P2 and leave it off the hook. That will kill the hiss.

If they turn up the gain, does it only affect my out going voice to the person I call? They level I hear them is great!

One would think the inbound and outbound gain settings would be independent, but others who have tried this have said that both are increased simultaneously at Vonage. So you may need to turn the volume down on your own headset, but the people you call will hear you louder after Vonage increases your gain.

I spoke to a level 2 the other day re: my rt3p2. He increased my inbound to +1 and my outbound to +3, or something like that. (both from scale of -6 (or -3, I forgett) to +6 , + meaning increasing volume). So, it seems both settings are independent

I'm glad Vonage can adjust the outgoing independently, because that seems to be the only one people have complained about.

I don't have any problems with outgoing or incoming volume on my Vonage, but I can understand why people want acceptable volume levels.

Thanks.

that's good info about them being independent.
as far as the hiss, fletcher is right on track, but here is a little nicer solution if you're up for it:

Independent settings calls FXS Gain.. on the device properties.

vonagebest, what is the best way to have my outgoing level boosted? I put in a ticket a couple of days ago and have not heard anything back.

An update. I just spent the long hold for support. The tech I talked to was very helpful. He tried boosting my outgoing phone level and we could hear no difference. Just as a test, I called him using an old WIRED phone. Made all the difference in the world. Then I tried on a different cordless than the one I was having out-going level problems with. It too worked great! The moral of the story is, the old 900 MHz phone was the problem. NOT Vonage! Check those phones! Very Happy
