so I guess you can solve that by turning your computer off.
heh, maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but it seems like you're insinuating that Voip has something to do with your computer. Voip never touches your computer, and you don't need a computer to have Voip. the exception being softphone, but it was never mentioned so I assume it wasn't the scenario here.

The other problem with the theory is that RWIN etc settings are for TCP, not UDP. Voip runs over UDP. A softphone wouldn't be affected by bad RWIN etc settings.

It seems that voice quality has been degrading over the months. Maybe due to overload ? Hope they are working to correct this. It was much better service when I first used 3-4 months ago.

Overload? That's possible. But with so few customers (compared to POTS) I doubt that they have reached a bottleneck. If this is the case then this technology is truly doomed because the Internet isn't going to get LESS crowded.

I've now switched to Cox Digital Telephone and enjoy minutes after minutes of UN-INTERRUPTED, clean, easy, flawless conversations.

BTW, for those who want to cancel their subscription, keep your original router packaging. You will be responsible for returning your router or will be charged for it ($41 in my case).

Someone who knows can correct me, but I'm assuming that data traffic for a Vonage call is managed/routed through some Vonage routers/switches at some place before call reaches final destination? If this assumption is correct, that would be gear with load capacity issue I referred to.

What are you people talking about? I am coming up on my 2nd anniversary with Vonage and I don't have any of the problems you folks are describing. I have BellSouth DSL Extreme and the old Cisco ATA-186 running through a Windows 2003 server (RRAS as my router).

I normally spend HOURS per day on my Vonage line and I just don't see the issues that folks are describing. No drops, no jitter, no problems of any real consequence.

I will admit to having issues with "All Circuits Are Busy" when I dial certain 866 toll free lines but those seem to come and go.

Maybe it is your router, maybe it is your ISP, maybe it could be some of the new terminal adapters... but the core Vonage network works very very well for me.

Me too. I think most of the problems are local ISP problems - not Vonage. If these were Vonage problems, we would all be experiencing them and Vonage would be folding up in no time.

I have to say since I joined in June 2004, I have had no problems. I believe Videotron is providing top-notch cable high speed service to customers in Quebec, and they are largely responsible for people in this area of Canada not having problems with Voip.

If you can switch your high speed provider, it might be best to try that. It should make all of the difference in the world.

search google for Voip gateways, you'll get a lot of info. I don't know what product Vonage uses though.
