last night a friend called and said my Voicemail is not working correctly. When the VM picks up, it just beeps, no out going message. I test myself and find the same thing. I wait to this morning (hoping the problem would just fix itself) and same problem. I called tech support they have no idea why it happened. I re-recorded my outgoing message and now that message does work correctly.
Did anyone else have this problem, or am I the only lucky one?
Thanks, Steven |

Experienced exactly the same problem yesterday (8/19/2003)
Didn't have the patience (or time) to deal w/ tech support so I just re-recorded a new greeting ... which immediately starting working fine. (and still is 18 hours later)
BTW, I didn't ever use or even setup any of the more "advanced" greeting options.
Guess our old greetings were just "lost" |

After reading this, I decided to try ours. (Still don't have the POTS disconnected, so not getting voice mail yet) It was gone, just as described. I've re-recorded it. Will see how long it sticks. |

If your voicemail outgoing message is "gone" like this, as it turns out, it's *not* actually gone. If you had no outgoing message, the caller would get a generic greeting that said that you were unavailable and to leave a message at the beep.
That would be reasonable and would not confuse callers so that they just went away.
Instead, for the customers who have been impacted by this voicemail system failure, the outbound mesage has been *replaced* by a 30-second sequence of beeps every 2 seconds. And, unfortunately, Vonage has not seen fit to admit that this is going on, e.g. by posting a service advisory or by telling customers that they will need to re-record their outbound messages in order to have callers not become bewildered and hang up when calling them.
Another option would simply be to reset the voice mail boxes impacted, or reset their settings and messages. Every voicemail system in widespread use supports this.
Anyway, if someone trying to call you reports that you're in this situation, don't assume your greeting's just "gone" and that callers will get the generic greeting and get you a message -- you need to rerecord it yourself, immediately, since it looks like Vonage is not (yet?) doing what they need to do to fix it for you. |

I re-recorded my message and it was working fine. I just called home to make sure its working and NOW there is no message and NO beep. I'm starting to think I may have to go back to Verizon. I do NOT want to do that, but Vonage just isn't reliable. |

I am having the same problem. I sat on hold for 30 mins and the tech support guy sent my problem to the voice mail team. So for now I have my Vonage phone forwarded to my cell phone because I am waiting for an important message. NOT GOOD! |

After having received several voicemail messages where the caller just hangs up, and in one case someone repeats, "Hello?", on a hunch I checked my outgoing voicemail greeting. You guessed it-- nothing. The "review your greeting" prompt resulted in "record a new greeting" beep, which I did.
One wonders if my greeting was somehow corrupted in the system, why it didn't go to a generic greeting. My very strong suspicion is that these callers were met with silence. That's a bad thing.
I guess I'll be checking my outgoing greeting every few days, but Vonage might want to look into the technical aspects of falling back to the generic greeting when a customer greeting becomes damaged or corrupted. |

I have been using Vonage for about two weeks now. The first 3 days I thought I had found a new best friend. Now, I am afraid that I am in a nightmare.
I set Vonage up as my business line. After the third day I was unable to access my voicemail because they said my password did not match. I inquired to tech support via email and phone. Of course I got no return call but they did send me an email saying they had opened a trouble ticket. Hooray for the company that sold Vonage their CMS at least that service works. I have sent numerous other emails inquiring as to the status of this but have gotten no response, and now more than a week later I still cant check my messages although I do get emails notifying me that I have new voicemails that I cant check.
To further compound my problems my Vonage line does not get incoming calls so anyone who calls me on this line can not get through to me.
I guess the only thing that gives me solice is that Vonage appears to be willing to use its own service. I believe this to be the case because everytime I call to the Corporate office to try and get help they have huge problems with their own phone system. A couple of days ago the main line was down and the only line I could get through on was the line to the PR department (there is a job I would not want). I spoke with the lady there and she was surprised at the problems I was having and had not heard of anyone else having problems with the service. At least I know Vonage hired the right person for the PR department, someone who can outright lie and sound sincere. I am sure she will be very busy over the coming months. |
