OK...I got Vonage activated on all my lines in the house by removing my incoming connection to Verizon (thank to CCNADog). I have tested my home alarm system and that work fine, but now the hold up seems to be my DirecTV Tivo and regular DirecTV reciever.
The DTivo is a Series 2 (RCA DVR40) which does have the USB port. I have tried every dial out code I could find and no luck. I can get the modem to dial out (the DTV internal modem), but have no luck making a connection. Does anyone have any successful dial prefixes they have used?
With the DTV Tivo can I simply attach a USB2 wireless connection and "dial out" or get my updates this way?
Thank you

You cannot use the USB ports on a DTV box as they are not enabled. Search for Tivo on this forum and you will find plenty of codes. Good luck! It didn't work for me |

As far as DTV USB ports not operational...I thought by putting a #401 code or something like that would allow them to work and let's the system update? |

Unfortuanatly this only addresses stand-alone units and not DTV boxes. |

If you have a DSR6000, supposedly you are in luck. You can slow down your modem baud rate to 19K by entering the dialing prefix - ,#019
I have a DSR6000 and I have not had any success with this as of yet. Maybe once I short out the line 2 in my linksys router (to fix the background hissing) it will work.
There are other "hacks" for DirecTivos, which usually involve purchasing an external modem.
You can find a lot of info in the Tivo Community Forum. |

so far no luck for me. I have the RCA DVR40 and am going to buy the new R10 today. I tried a bunch of codes in the RCA and I can get it to dial out, but it cannot make the connection although I hear it trying. I have been reading the Tivo forum and many people say there is no requirement for the Tivo to dial out and things will work perfectly. However, I just got off the phone with DirecTV and of course, they insist on a landline phone and state that the USB ports aren't active on the series 2 models. I think DTV needs to get moving on the USB ports and get their equipment working over the Internet rather than relying on landlines. I have a lot of friends who have either moved to Voip or only use cell phones so landline use is only going to decrease. |

BUT you really don't need to dial up for your Tivo to operate. It's not that big of a deal. |

That's what I have been starting to understand from this forum and the Tivo forum. I would love to hear from someone who hasn't had their Tivo connected for an extended amount of time, yet has all the Tivo functionalities. |

I read last night on the forum about somebody who has had it disconnected for 600+ days and all is still good! |
