So this uses the Internet to connect and send IP packets rather than utilizing any type of modem? |

DTV and Tivo installed earlier this week - just getting used to the menus and the recording options.
Later on next week I'll rig a PC for a PPP connection and get the 9thtee cable to use for updates.

it was very, very simple and I am so glad I went this route. I tried all the codes and filters etc and nothing worked. This worked like a charm and was very easy to configure. |

So, this PPP Connection solution works for Sony's DirecTivo (SAT-T60)?
Tivo would connect great using the Motorola phone adapter Vonage sent me, but over the weekend, I got the Linksys/Vonage Wireless router, and Tivo no longer was able to connect with it.
All of the prefixes and hacks I did with the phone number didn't help a bit. So this PPP solution sounds like the most promising. I already ordered my serial cable from Tivo, but it would give me some peace of mind in the meantime to hear if others have been able to get their SAT-T60 working using this method. |

When I switched from my Motorola TA to the wireless Linksys all of my non-voice functionality went down the tubes. I lost the ability to use my PC faxmodem card and my multifunction printer/scanner/fax couldn't send or receive. As soon as I went back to the Motorola everything worked fine again. I think it is a problem in the Linksys product. Vonage says no it isn't so, but your experience matches mine. |

So, I figure someone will be in the same situation as me and come across this forumn wondering if the PPP Connection will work with the Sony T-60.
I finally got everything setup and I can say that it indeed does work quite well. However, I had to change the speed to 19,200, I couldn't get it to work at 115,200.
Also be sure to get a null modem cable. I just bought the serial cable from tivo.com, and realized later that it needs to be a null modem cable. You can buy a null modem cable from www.9thtee.com that will connect to your Tivo directly, or you can use Tivo's serial cable and buy a null modem adapter from someplace.
Overall, I would highly recommend this solution over trying to get all of the prefixes to work with your Vonage connection. |

I have not connected in 300+ days. Other not being able to order PPV from the D*TiVo, there has been no functionalty lost. However, it has been annoying since the 30 day mark to have to delete the daily reminder indicating I have not connected.
