Well, that sounds somewhat promising. I received an email back from them stating that they had no time frame as to when more 905 exchanges would be available. But that I could purchase a 905 Hamilton number and when a 905 exchange in my area was available they would switch it for free.
I guess middle of the year isn't all that far away. |

No it should not be much longer. In the meantime you can call people anywhere in Canada and the US. Just get your friends to call your long distance number - let it ring twice, and then ask them to hang up. That way you will see the caller id, and you can call them back.
I sent an email to Vonage Canada yesterday asking about 911 and Number Portability. This was the Canadian office that I was speaking with. The response was this: Thank you for your email. I am happy to tell you that 911 and local number portability will be available VERY SHORTLY! Please stay tuned for details. With respect to the technical features you list below, I have bcc'd this email to our Director of Technology, as he might be in the best position to know if any of these technical offerings are in the works.
The questions to the Director of Technology are in reference to other questions that I asked her. I asked about several other features - Do Not Disturb, Call Privacy, Speed Dial, Telephone Directory Listing, and the ability to hook up IP phones as well as analog sets.
I think if we can get 911 and Number Portability, that would be a tremendous improvement. The lack of these two features seems to be the main reason many people do not want to switch to Vonage. At least this is what I am faced with when I tell people that I'm a Vonage customer. My friends and co-workers are very interested in this until they hear that 911 is not available, and that they would lose their current phone number. Those are big issues to many people. I think if Vonage can obtain those two features it will greatly improve their stance in the Canadian marketplace. It makes sense! |
