Post subject: Israel connection problem
I am having problems similar to those discussed at the following url which I was not able to join.
http://www.vonage-forum.com/sutra20313.html
I brought my
Vonage
unit to Israel about four months ago from South Africa (where it had worked well for five years on a 1 MB line) and connected it to an existing phone line and modem/router (Siemens SL2-141) which also provides wi-fi. It worked well (with the occasional need for a re-boot) until several weeks ago when it became erratic. Occasionally I would get a dial tone and be able to dial numbers in the US but rarely. Sometimes I would get a busy signal. Sometimes I would get the recording that the device was unable to connect to the internet.) Re-booting the unit sometimes helped, often not. I called Vonage's tech support and they were very helpful in trying to trouble shoot, but eventually decided to send me a replacement unit. It arrived but had the same problems. People calling my
Vonage
number (area code 512) from the US rarely get through. I use Skype as a backup and it works pretty well (audio and video).
I called the phone company's (Bezeq) tech support. They said the line (10 MB) was fine and referred me to the IP (Netvision). I called the IP and they said the everything was fine on their end. Their tech said I might try “port forwarding”, or “change the MTU”, or that the “NAT Table had filled up” and referred me back to the phone company. I don't know how to do these tasks unfortunately. Does anyone have any ideas?
