Could somebody explain what is meant by the phrase, "PhoneTray requires a modem with caller ID support"?

Every modem is mostly capable of Caller ID but You have to initialize some extra command like AT+VCD =1
This is most common command to capable modem identifying caller ID

This software is adding some commands to modem to initialize and reboot your PC. You are done.

Good luck SIR

Hi,

Could you please give me instructions?

Thank You

Yes, I called him. He was off today, but the CSR did not hear of a date when ACR would be offered! (Big surprise!)
Note: Wait time on hold: 14 minutes.

seriously, this is totally a solution for such an oversight by vonage.

their QoS is great, their customer service is great, but to be honest (and anyone who's used other competitors) the thin line between service offerings and cost is easily crossed.

Vonage's services are next to nill, but like that really REALLY old saying goes, you get what you pay for,

all any competitor needs to do is show a simple matrix with what vonage doesn't offer compared to theirs (easily absorbed in 5 seconds, 1 second show and 4 fade/move) in a 15 second commercial and people who can spare the extra 5 or 10 a month will probably switch in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the link. There is an opensource version of this somewhere on sourceforge as well; someone is working on a "vonage scraper" that will email you your voice messages instead of just a notification... perfect for those with PDA's. I've used it (yes it takes your username/password and stores it, but it's open source if you are a paranoid type) and it's kinda cool having your voicemail ready for you in your inbox after a 5 hour flight.

Vonage already offers the option to e-mail you voicemail messages instead of just a notification.

I downloaded the software and have started testing its use. So far, I find it to be a pretty good workaround until Vonage gets ACR. The two cons to using this solution are: 1)The phone will usually ring once 2) Your computer has to be on for the calls to be zapped.

I do have one question that someone may be able to help me with. I have a BCM v.92 56K modem installed. The phonetray software references a .wav file when it zaps a call but I can't get the audio to come over this particular modem. Any suggestions?

Yes, it will be very nice when ACR is implemented by Vonage.

It is the one feature of the service that is missing.

With my old telco, *77 did the trick, *78 would undo the magic.
This blocks all calls who purposefully block their CID info.
It has saved me HOURS of calls by telemarketer's, even though i signed for the "do not call" registry, my fax was still flooded by junk.

Please, Vonage, implement *77 soon, for all of our sakes!!!!!!

So, can I use this Phone Tray software on my cable modem which has a Vonage PAP2 device attached? I'm sketchy on how this works for Vonage if your using a PAP2 device and a cable modem behind a router. Keep in mind, I don't make calls from my PC even though I do have Vonage, I use my existing telephones.
