Did anyone buy the Vonage starter kit from Radio Shack? I was just wondering what the difference would be and why you would want it if Vonage sends you the hardware for free anyway. |

The package I received from Circuit City waived the set up fee and there were no shipping charges. Not sure what the Canada deal is but that was how it is here in the US |

you get a different phone adaptor form Radio Shack or Staples, then you do from Vonage.. Vonage sends you the Linksys Router.. but charges you $20.00 shipping.. if you buy at Radio Shack or Staples, your get teh Linksys PAP2, you must be using a router already to use this product, as it has no 'out' LAN ports on it.. btw, Staples is $10 cheaper than Radio Shack, both offer the $65 mail in rebate.. works out about the same price to get from Vonage or from Retail store, just different product.. |

Yes, Staples is cheaper by $10....
I was reading somewhere that the adapter that Vonage provides can only be used for Vonage. The models availalbe at Staples/Radio Shack are unlocked and could be used with another company.
I'm going to Staples tomorrow to see which model they have available.

I wanted to get the one form Staples, just cuz I'd have it faster than waiting in teh mail and then it'd be mine and all.. but I guess if it's locked then it isn't much use w/o Vonage anyways.. also with it being a different setup than teh other linksys I could not use it.. my modem and router are in a different apartment in this house, all i have is a network cable goign to my comp. so I had to have a ATA with a LAN out on it to go to my comp.. btw, I have never had any problems with this setup of having modem --> router --> ATA --> comp ... all my calls come and go no problem, even when my bro is upstairs playing 2 playstations and running his laptop and I'm running my comp too, calls are still good.. I have really fast cable speeds here, this entire city was cable re-built 3 yrs ago, and my neighbourhood is mostly older ppl that likely dont' have cable Inet.. |
