I spent two hours today online with the helpdesk at Vonage to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Setup -Comcast - Motorola SBG900 wireless cable modem - linksys router - computers. The phone works (yea!) when I have the firewall set to "none" but because it's also wireless, I do not want enable wireless until I can get the firewall working and would prefer to leave it on high naturally. We tried using port forwarding, etc. but nothing works unless the firewall is disabled on the Motorola,which, of course, is not acceptable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

I opened the software for the Linksys and put the mac address for the Motorola in the Linksys router under mac cloning. Then I went into the Motorola software and put in the port forwarding values that they said to use in the Vonage tech support and then I went into the firewall settings and opened those ports under the "custom" settings and everything seems to work fine. I do still have a fast blinking light on the Linksys router and on the Motorola but everything works fine. It says in the instructions that a fast blinking light means that something is updating, but I hardly think something would be updating all week, so I have asked for help on this issue but have not heard back yet. If anyone knows how to stop the fast blinking, I would appreciate hearing about it. |

I have configured the cable modem to not provide NAT translation, this somehow interrupts the Linksys Router. If I enable the NAT I can connect my wireless devices and get to the internet. But I lose my ability to surf the web from my PC & Phone on the Linksys Router. Does anybody know of a way to have both NAT on the cable modem enabled ( so that wireless devices can connect) and still get connectivity to the internet & phone via the Linksys Broadband Router? It appears that it is one way or the other?? Thanks in advance. |

I have the firewall operational with the RT300;
Motorola support gave me the set up:
You will need to bring up your internet explorer and in the address bar type 192.168.100.1 and press enter. After doing so you would want to log into the modem using username: admin password: motorola unless you changed it. Once in the GUI you will need to choose Gateway on the left and click LAN at the top then below that click on DHCP Leases. And look under Current DHCP Leases and you will need to get the hostname, Mac address and the Ip address of the RTP300. You will need to reserve the New Ip address by filling in this information in the boxes above and check bypass firwall then click ADD. Then you will need to click the drop down arrow under Gaming DMZ and choose the hostname of your RTP300 that needs to connect the Voip under the Current DHCP Leases section. Then click apply below that and click reboot on the left. Once the online light on the modem comes on attempt to connect to the Voip phone again. If issues persist dont hesitate to give us a call at 1-877-466-8646 or contact us via Email. Thank you for choosing Motorola Products and have a nice day.
My RTP300 router had no host name and did not use one. I left it blank.
It is running with the firewall on high stting. Hope this helps everyone |
