I am just looking to simplify my setup of modem, routers and Vonage. I see a screen in my VT2142 setup that appears to let me set a connection username and password. Thanks

The VT2142 is a router, not a modem. It requires an ethernet connection to function. The line going to the modem is usually not an ethernet connection.
