I know this isn't directly a Vonage issue. I haven't had any Vonage or speed issues with this router but I'm having one nagging issue.
Being the paranoid type, I like turning off every option I can and cranking up every security feature I can. Obviously this includes disabling the SSID broadcast.
The problem is a known issue in that it broadcasts even after I select Disable and apply. I'm simply wondering if there's a fix or a firmware update.

hmm. i had noticed that with my WRT54GP2. so it isnt just me...
i do the MAC Filtering.. i had to turn off the encryption stuff as it seemed to lose dhcp info for a few minutes a day with that. could be coincidence but when i turned the encryption off it works. i will want to try that again later with some other options... |

Actually, I've noticed the DHCP issue too but I've been tinkering to work around it.. seems to be an issue with it timing out.. For example, I go to work and school every day and come home to use my notebook.. if more than 12 hours elapses before I come home and boot up my notebook I lose the DHCP and then have to fight with it a bit to get it to reconnect.
I'm not sure if I'm having exactly the same DHCP problem but it, like the SSID broadcast issue, is just bad enough to be annoying. I've got MAC filtering on and WEP 128bit enabled. I'm the paranoid type (having spent 10 years in the IT industry before going back to school for engineering).
I should mention that I've been using Linksys routers for years and I replaced the WRT45GS that I was using with this one specifically for the Vonage capability. |

I called Vonage about this (and even brought another router) only to be told that SSID could not be disabled because the protocol was needed by the Voip. Not sure if I believe that one ... |

Now that's downright funny.. I would love to hear from a Vonage guy as to how broadcasting the wireless SSID has ANYTHING to do with the Voip functionality. |

Just picked up one of these and was very surprised to find the LAN with a friend's laptop that had not been configured specifically for this LAN. Has anyone heard of a firmware update to resolve this? While only laptops with limited use will use this LAN, I certainly don't want to broadcast it's presence. From this apartment there 14 open access points for people to play with.. They don't need to play with mine... |

I quit using the DHCP server as it was very problematic. My home has 4 laptops, a desktop, and a very large 15" rack frame that I use for video work.
Since I went to dedicated IP addresses I have had much more success with the box.
The Voip works great.
Per the Vonage speed test http://www.vonage-forum.com/voip-speed-test.html I am running around T1 speed.
