I was thinking about signing up with the Vonage unlimited for $39.99/mo. It appears to be alot cheaper than the telephone company I am currently with. The only thing I am concerned about is if there is any 'hidden' charges on the bill. Can someone please tell me if it will be 39.99 you pay a month, plus tax.....or are there a bunch of other charges? What would a typical bill cost? I just don't want to switch over and it end up costing the same as the company I'm with - just because of the hassle....I would appreciate any info...Thanks.

No, there are no hidden charges on your monthly statement. You will be charged $39.99 + tax. Some provinces have the GST and PST, and others have the HST. You would be charged the appropriate tax depending on your billing address.
When signing up to Vonage, there is sometimes a start up cost, and a shipping charge for the voice terminal that they send to you. When signing up, the online website should display these charges to you. Nothing was a surprise to me when I got my bill, and now my monthly charges are $45.99 - ALL TAXES INCLUDED. That's it!
Nope, no hidden charges. I'm on the 19.99 plan and I only get charged tax. Of course if you use extra minutes, LD, 411 you'll get charged.
I guess the only fee that qualifies as "hidden" is vonage's return policy on the phone adapter. If you order the phone adapter from Vonage and you cancel the service, you have to ship the adapter back to Vonage within 14 - 30 days (not sure how many days, check the contract) or else you'll be charged the full amount for the adapter.
I believe this doesn't apply to you if you've purchased the adapter from radioshack.
