PostPosted: Fri Feb 04, 2005 3:14 pm    Post subject: WRT54GP2 wifi [ADMIN EDIT] bad...any ideas? Reply with quote Back to top

I can't get any signal from this box when I am more than 10 feet from it. I have tested 3 separate wifi cards and all have the the same problem. I don't have cordless phones, and no neighbors to speak of. (not within a mile anyway) I think this box just **** for wifi. When I am plugged into a LAN port, it screams even when I am using the phone. if i connect my laptop via the wifi (if I can get a signal) it is VERY slow, I have tried changing channels and all that.

Please post some ideas? do I need a new firmware? My current version is 1.24.01

Love the Vonage, hate the WRT54GP2's wifi!!

HELP!!

firmware is pushed by Vonage. it's not publicly available.
there was a long thread on different problems people were having with that device. the link below is the only real explanation I found. you might consider returning it and getting the WRT54G (same thing without the phone ports) which a lot of people use and love. you can also get third party firmware to extend the wireless range even further (apparently it goes more than 10 feet to begin with though). Then you can either have Vonage send you an RT31P2 or pick up a PAP2.

I was just really hoping to keep my desk clean. 1 box, 2 functions. Why doesn't the box do what its build to do? I have a hard time believing that it can't/won't work.

I am ready to dump this POS though.

I'm using the same Linksys WRT54GP2 WiFi Router & have had no problems at all.

I'm using it with an Apple Airport Card in my PowerBook G4 & I can move all over my apt with no problem. The signal is as strong as my Airport Base Station in my office.

Though my Linksys router firmware version is 1.25.00.

If you've tried three different cards, though I might be stating the obvious, have you replaced the Linksys Router yet? You could have a bad one.
