The question is, how many times a month do you call someone to make a purchase over the phone, or call the doctor to discuss various 'things'.?
Yes, there is a point behind this thread... Please do not include specifics, just type a number of times (adding both together). |

0 why don't you say the purpose? still paranoid about your calls being tapped? blackmail and identity theft and bears! oh my!
not to say you don't have a valid point, but if you want security you'll have to go back to whispering everything in the person's ear. what about email? and every other non "secure" internet transaction? |

Very true. I still run into individuals that send ssn's through email. the difference between the two are, the average person believes these conversations are 'secure'.
Even the representatives I speak to at Vonage believe the conversations are secure.
I'm just trying to make sure people are informed of what things they shouldn't discuss on the phone with Vonage. The difference between the phone companies and Vonage is accessability. At the central offices, there's a certain level of security, and wiretaps require certain procedures to go through. on the internet, just because it's illegal to do so doesn't mean someone out in the big internet cloud wont attempt to capture and decode the conversations. |

Dconnor:
That's a very interesting article. Although I believe the FBI should work with Vonage directly when they want to setup a wiretap, and do it from the servers, and not over the wire. it's just too simple for black/white hatters to decode the packets.
Personally, I dont care if people see who i call by looking at the CIP packets... I'm highly concerned about the RTP packets being unencrytped, and easily decoded with free sniffers like ethereal, or other utilities like vomit... |
