Post subject: Dual router configuration (wireless & wired) for one sub
Hi,
I have been trying to setup these two routes as daisy chain (in series) for the past couple of days without much luck.
The connection I intend to have is Modem->E2000 (with wired PC & wireless laptop connections)->RTP300 with
Vonage
phones and another wired PC.
I read this old post and yet I couldn't make it work:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7668-0-asc-30.html
I have setup the IP of E2000 as 192.168.15.2 while the RTP300 was left untouched at 192.168.15.1 and the "Local DHCP Server" & Firewall/NAT disabled. The only way I could get the internet connection to the computer attached to a LAN port of RTP300 was to attach a cable from the LAN port of E2000 to a LAN port of RTP300 and make a loop by connecting the WAN port & a LAN port of RTP300. But the phones attached to the RTP300 don't have a dial tone!
Also the web interface for RTP300 at 192.168.15.1 indicates an error because the LAN & WAN are on the same IP domain... could this be an issue??
I have tried the same wiring setup with the 192.168.1.1 IP for E2000 to avoid the same IP domain conflict and managed to the get the internet on the PC attached to RTP300 with appropriate IP 192.168.1.X address assigned to all attached devices. But then I cannot access the RTP300 web interface at 192.168.15.1 from the network 192.168.1.X and the phones wouldn't work anyways.
Ideally I would like to have both router assigned to 192.168.15.X network so all devices are on the same LAN and I would expect the intutive attachment from Cable modem to WAN port of E2000 and an ethernet cable from LAN1 of E2000 to WAN port of RTP300 with DCHp disabled for RTP300 to avoid any IP conflicts, while the wired PCs might be attached either of the two routers.
I guess I wish to use the RTP300 for the phone and as an access point so I can hook up an old office PC there if need be.
Please help !!
Modi
