For #91 (call transfer with announcement): In my hardcopy instructions, it says, call person A, press Flash, dial #91, dial person B's number, announce caller to person B, press # and hangup. The issue is, once I press # and hangup (last step), Person A's line calls/shows up via person B's CALL WAITING (where person B needs to click his Flash button to be connected to person A).

Something does not seem right here, what if person B does NOT have call waiting? Does person A never get transferred to person B once I hang up?

On the website, they only talk about #90 call transfer (call transfer withOUT announcment), but not #91 (call transfer WITH announcement).

Good question on what happens if person B doesn't have call waiting. Why don't you try it and let us know if it works? I'm interested in the outcome myself.

My guess would be that Vonage is smart enough to "retry" person B several times if the line is busy just for this situation.

... when I signed up ~1 month ago their website listed the #91 code, it has been recently that they removed it from their website and only show the #90 transfer code. I am not sure why, and I have only used the #90, but would like the #91 as an option.

There was an issue with #91 where people were faking out the caller id. For example, you could call a phone number and wait for the called party to answer. Then you could say, "Please hold for a moment", and press flash, then #91 + area code + number. This would ring the new number relaying the caller id of the person you have on hold!

People were complaining about this due to the fact that the feature was allowing people to circumvent the caller id, and possibly getting other people into some trouble.

I would imagine that this is why #91 no longer works the way it used to work. Now you can announce that a call is coming through, but it displays your phone number. Then you can ask them to hang up as you are going to transfer someone to them. Once they hang up, press # and the party on hold will be transferred to them.

#90 does the same thing - it allows a transfer, and it relays the caller id of the person you have on your other line. It will not allow you to make an announcement, which prevents you from tricking the system using someone else's caller id info.

keep in mind that call transfer works on incoming calls only.

from the learning center:

Call Transfer allows you to direct live calls anywhere in the US and Canada. This feature is similar to Call Forwarding, but works on a per call basis and only after you have already answered the phone. Call Transfer works only for incoming calls, not outgoing calls.

I don't know. Maybe they gathered some statistics as to how many people used #91 and figured there were not enough people using to it to bother posting anything about it.

Although it was cool to have it, I really didn't have any need for it. Unless you are calling the Queen of England, most people don't really need to be announced to the calling party. Just transfer them using #90. I can understand why they got rid of the way #91 was working because it was circumventing the caller id information. It was kind of a silly feature. Although #90 is a great feature, #91 was silly. I would much rather have Call Screen or Call Privacy or Do Not Disturb features than #91.

At one time #91 was working on outgoing calls as well as incoming calls. I called my sister and connected her to my mother. I was the one who placed both the call to my sister and my mother. On my mother's call display, it stated my sister's name and number, yet I was able to speak to my mother while my sister was on hold. Mom answered thinking it was her calling, and wondered how that happened seeing as I live 1000 miles away from both of them.
