When should I cancel my phone number?

I have had service for 2 weeks and then decided to port my verizon line to Vonage. Charged me 9.99 for a number change.

When I signed up, I indicated that I was transfering my number. I had already used their website to determine if my number could be transfered. They'll also use your existing number for caller-in in outgoing calls instead of the temp number they give you.

It took longer than the 20 days to transfer my number from Verizon. I had to send a couple of emails to check the status. I guess that was a nudge for them to nudge their contractor to inquire about the transfer status. It was transfered shortly there after and I got my final Verizon bill in Jan. Good to be rid of them.

I am satisfied with the service. I just read in another thread about having problems acitivating a credit card over Vonage. I have to do that so we'll see if it works. Might be a good thing if it doesn't then I won't be tempted to use the CC. Smile

I meant to say. Don't cancel your existing phone service. Part of the transfer process is that the existing number must be active for it to be transfered and the name on the existing phone account must match your Vonage account.

The transfer process will cancel your service with Qwest. When the transfer occurrs, you will get an email with a transfer date. You will have to pay Qwest through that date.
