Honestly, I don't think we're understaffed, I think it takes time for people get up to speed.

I will try my best to help all the new people but one can only do so much.

Keep the Faith. my friends.

I might get moderated for what I am about to say, we shall see.

Are you an idiot? Not understaffed? Can you please explain why thousands of post on this forum are from people crying out for help after waiting hours on hold to speak TO YOU

??? Keep the faith??? How about you pay my phone bill? How is that for faith? I did not sign up for a religion, I signed up for a phone service.

You VonageBest are clearly clueless.

abqdan, it sounds like you've ordered (or was given) a number outside of your area. Vonage allows you to pick which town your prefix comes from...... to an extent. If your out in the sticks, they can usually get close. I'm 20 miles from Spokane, WA & they had a local prefix in my area code.
So the answer is, your neighbors will dial 7 numbers to get your Vonage line if they port over your local land line. And would dial 7 if you can get a local prefix virtual # too.

Yes, the company is clearly suffering from under-staffing in all areas. I've been waiting a week for a reply on a pre-sales issue - something they ought to be jumping all over. I actually went ahead and ordered the service, and then couldn't get any response from tech support about installation of the RT31P2 they sent me (I wanted to integrate it into my current home network, not replace my main router). After four days of waiting, I figured it out my self Smile

Now the unit is installed, the configuration was very smooth, and the voice quality is great. We've decided to try the service out for a month and see how it goes.

However, my (very basic) question remains unanswered, and we won't transfer our existing number and terminate our POTS until we're sure...

If you transfer your local number to Vonage, will local residents still be dialing a local number to call us? At the moment, the Vonage number we were allocated is a long distance number, and I can't see friends and family wanting to pay long distance to call us, while we're saving money on Vonage!

If you are in the albuquerque area (as I am), I noticed the same thing with my temporary line while waiting for my LNP. The reason for the LD call (even though its a 505 area code) is because that is what Qwest provisioned for other companies to use (such as vonage). I have a Nextel phone that my work provided me that suddenly last year got moved from local area to long distance. I called Nextel, and the reason given by the reps and later Qwest when I called was because they re-provisioned my exchange so that other providers could use that space. Apparently they want you to bug-off that exchange if you already had a number, as that was what I got from Nextel.. but who knows.

If you LNP your current Qwest number, You'll be fine. Qwest transfered my number in 4 days (damn quick, as if they dislike me as a customer or something?) and I've had not one problem sending or recieving calls from the locals.

AMEN to that. And when it is a life and death situaiton, this is bad. I got aggravated and sent them a letter and ask them why they started a business when they never had employees to run it. I told they they either need to close down, get more help or at least fix it where we don't have to hold for hours. Like, maybe we could leave a message and they could call us back in order as the call was received.
Of course, by the time I had held for two hours, my message was not quite that polite. I guess I lost my temper with them.
The last email I sent them was to try and find out where to send it back to. Does anybody know? Do we just send it back to the address that was on the box?
I need to send mine back and file a chargeback since it was misrepresented to me.

Of course, they want you to call them first and get an RMA number. Good luck with that.

Do you really think that the whining and complaining will solve your problems? If it was just banter we could all laugh about it. I don't think that guys like you could ever be satisfied unless the salesman gave you a lollipop with the receipt.

I applaud all of the users out there that can understand the unique situation our company is in. Our marketing campaign has caused our lines to ring off of the hook. Because of this hold times have increased considerably. Management is trying their best hiring as many new reps as possible to offset the call flood we encounter on a constant basis. On behalf of Vonage I do apologize. Please bear with us things will improve considerably very soon.

Sincerely,

Stephen Santana

If that remark was meant for me about whining and complaining, you need to read all my posts; and then if you still feel that I did not have legitimate reason to complain, then it is plain to see that you have a heart of stone.
If you had "died" three times and had that darn vacuum cleaner hose (that's what it feels like anyway) crammed down in to your lungs for 48 to 72 hours, then you too would be concerned about being able to dial 911 when needed. I am just thankful I tested it or when I really needed an ambulance, I would have problaby died. People whose lungs collaspe can't keep hitting numbers and hoping someone will help. They need 911 and not a service that says, "hang up dial 911". How would that help? It would only get the non emergency number again because I did dial 911. And yes, it is misrepresented in the terms. It says that it will be routed to an emergency service, but mine was routed to a non emergency service.
You are not in my shoes and hopefully you don't have the breathing problems I have and have not flatlined while in your place of residence or you would not have been so keen to make such a rude remark.
Even the Vonage rep that replied to my private message understood my situation and said he would fix it. I don't understand where you think I was complaining. I was just stating a fact, but there is always a bad apple in every bunch of good ones, or so I have been told, so I should have expected a rude reply from at least one person.
Their support by phone is lousy. I am not saying it is their fault. I am just saying some people cannot handle their music while on hold. Heck, I would not mind holding for hours if I could hold in silence. And I don't mean to bash them. I want to keep my service but without 911, I can't. Hopefully the person that promised to call me will and all will be fixed and I will keep it. But please, before you belittle me again, read all of my posts and see the whole picture instead of taking something out of context.

This is a great technology and always improving, however, far from perfect. But I'm curious why anyone with a life threatening illness would trust their life to a technology that relies on so many variables, as apposed to a proven "land line". I don't think my life is worth saving a few bucks on long distqance phone costs... Just my two cents.
