Post subject: Transferring Number from Bell South...
I have been trying to get my number transferred from Bell South to
Vonage
...still no go...
I inquired again as to status, and I get a call back from
Vonage
Executive Response Team that because I am transferring a wireless number I need to provide them with a social security number. Seems odd to me, as I am not transferring a wireless number...but he could have been confused on that part.
Has anyone who transferred from BellSouth had to supply a social security number to
Vonage
to make the transfer go through besides the requested LOA and bill?
Thanks,
Alicia

How long have you had that Bell South number?
If it's a reasonably recent number, then it may just be a fluke because of how the system seems to work. It seems the number still comes up in the system with the original authority, even after numerous ports (and time to let the system "update"). One of my cell phone numbers hit a bit of a snag on the port to Nextel because it still showed up as an AT&T Wireless number (even though it was ported to Verizon the day LNP was on for that area, stayed there for two years, and I recently sent the port to Nextel). Nextel wanted an AT&T bill and account number and called me for it, I just told them it was indeed a Verizon number and the account information they had was correct and they put it through and it worked.
It's possible your area just has a crunch for numbers and Bell South is issuing whatever they can (even if it was originally assigned to their mobility side). If they're running out of numbers, perhaps they're "porting" internally so they can use up their numbers and not have to pay a fortune to buy someone else's.
Of course this is all moot if you've had the line for quite some time. If so, sounds like someone is just not doing their job. Perhaps Bell South isn't letting the number go because the request is going to the wireless side when the landline side owns the number now, or you just got a standard "I type this 75,000 times a day" response from someone at
Vonage
who just did a quick look at the request information.
It's a real shock to come here and see all the people having problems with ports. [Knock on wood] I've done about 15 ports (wireless-wireless, landline-wireless) on my various business lines and they've all gone through in a maximum of 6 hours. I guess landline-"landline" is a different beast, though.

Post subject: Bellsouth LNP
My Bellsouth transfer status:
December 3, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
December 5, 2004 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
December 5, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
Inquiries yield useless canned responses. Everyone is clueless. The sad part is that an LNP fee has existed on my Bellsouth bill for a few years.

I have had this bellsouth number since 10/2001, so over three years.
I am not sure in the land of telephone numbers that would be considered a long time or not.
redstick, you have a few days on me...My process started December 9th.
Had a tentative date of 1/31, but when that didnt happen my followup and thus now the need for the ss number. I doubt if I hadn't called them, that I would have heard anything from them.

In the interest of fairness, I'll post my good story about this. This was a transfer from a Bell South number:
December 1, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
December 7, 2004 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
December 7, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
December 15, 2004 Carrier Approved Transfer
December 16, 2004 Completed LNP Transfer

Here is mine from Bell South. Transfer hasn' happened yet and
Vonage
ignores all attempts to check the status. How does a ticket get closed with no resolution? Why assign someone a ticket if there is no follow up?
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History:
November 22, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
November 22, 2004 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
November 22, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
November 22, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
December 3, 2004 Carrier Approved Transfer

Post subject: SBC number transfer
Got the Linksys phone adapter yesterday, set up no problem--browsing the internet and making calls (not receiving) in no time. From my conversation with the
Vonage
rep when signing up (because the online sign up failed), my understanding was that the SBC number would be transferred by the time the adapter arrived but it looks like it hasn't been. I haven't received any info regarding letter of transfer etc that others have posted. Is that in the account section somewhere? I called customer service...hung up after being on hold for 30 minutes. Any suggestions on getting info, speeding up the transfer... ? Thanks

well I got another email from someone else at
vonage
asking me for the ss number. Then I got another email from the person who called and emailed me yesterday telling me to disregard those requests, and that they are expediting the request with bellsouth, and are now waiting for a transfer date to be issued. And around in a circle we go.
