We have had Vonage for over a month. The LNP (what does that stand for Lol ) took about 25 business days. Sound quality is excellent - can't really tell the difference. I've had to call Vonage on some issues at the beginning and got through; had to wait on line with tech for, at the longest, 45 minutes. Only problem with RT31P2 router was when I first installed it. I had to hit reset button in back. We like the service so far. I would say if the phone is important for business purposes you might want to think about it because it seems like some of the problems I've read about on this forum are from business people. As far as LNP, you can get a new number and not worry about it!

I would like to answer some of your questions
1. I actually don't have a cell phone, no one in my family does. we just don't need them, we had them and got rid of them.
2. Vonage would be my only phone line, if I fully switched.
3 You say there are company reps, or tech support people here? who are they? that sounds like a good alturnitive to phone/e-mail tech support, if I need help.

One way to approach this would be to lower you current phone plan to the very cheapest regular landline telephone (called a POTS or plain old telephone service) plan you can get and use that as a backup. Then get a Vonage plan (as low as $14.95 per month for 500 outgoing minutes and unlimited incoming minutes with no extra charges for long distance). Even combined, the total cost of a cheap regular phone plan and Vonage might be less than you're paying now. You'd have to do the math yourself to judge that.

There are several Vonage techs (including some Tier 2 reps) who read and post to this forum regularly. Some of them are: VonageBest, JDR30, and JScott. They have helped people on this forum either by responding to posts or dealing with them directly through PMs.

For routine installation issues or common problems, there are a number of other folks on this forum who can offer good advice or share their experience. Often people here will tell you what they were told when they called Customer Service, which may solve whatever problem you're having.

you've posted 42 times. I daresay 99% of those have been questions that have either been addressed before or that could be found in 2 seconds at vonage.com. the rest were questions about the nature of Voip which were better found by reading about what Voip actually is. you have had that ridiculous quote as your signature for a long time, all the while not even understanding what Voip or Vonage is.
as far as Vonage employees, if you took the time to educate yourself instead of starting a new topic the split second you thought of yet another question and read other posts around here, you would know exactly who they are.
I realize this is a support forum and I try to help people as much as the next guy, but there's a difference between asking questions and asking for a silver spoon and crystal ball. do it or don't, no one but the forum owner benefits (assuming you use that coupon) and you shouldn't be relying on people to make your decisions for you.
there is a 14 day trial as you should know by now, but here it is repeated again just in case. the 14 day trial is so people who are unsure and want to test the service, can test the service. that is why it's there. I don't know what you're looking for, but you're not going to find it here. no one is going to say "hey mini1, I am Vonage and I say that you will have my service and all problems will be automatically fixed. this is the best deal of your life and you should not pass it up. my service will solve all your problems."

He11 no, don't do it! Just because we all are taking advantage of the savings & enjoying talking to all our friends & relatives for free (feels like it anyway). Just because I had no problems whatsoever getting mine to work. Just because I've never even had a problem getting thru to tech support (never even waited more than about 15 or 20 min.). Those aren't good enough reasons to try it! And CERTAINLY don't leave your POTS line hooked up while you test it! Cool

Be rational. Follow all the other lemmings & stay with the phone co. where the service is A+!!

I've used both Vonage and IConnectHere. IConnectHere's 2nd line technical support is fantastic - they work out from Israel - if I need them I call their 1-800 number and get answered immediately. The voice quality from anywhere in the world that I go to is excellent. If a local ISP does some port blocking they find a workaround.

In comparison I don't need to comment about Vonage support - this forum has enough references.

The only plus Vonage has for me is LNP (if they ever deliver).

I just started a trial period of Vonage - I was all ready to cut over completely to the service. However, I've found a few snags.

Most importantly, although I have a great Comcast cable connection (3000kbs down, 256kbs up) I am unable to get the following devices to work well/at all:

FAX machine (mostly OK)
Alarm system modem (won't pass alarm company diagnostic test)
ReplayTV (cannot update the program schedule)

The voice quality on Vonage is GREAT! Even to the UK. But, since the service doesn't seem to be able to reliably deal with data services, I'm putting it back in the box and sending it home for now Sad Hopefully they'll figure out how to deal with modem connections.

Their customer service has been the worst I've ever dealt with. Even pre-sales queries were left unanswered, and I've heard nothing back from them on the modem issues - I've just had to figure stuff out from others in this forum. (This was where I discovered the ReplayTV unit was just NOT going to work with Vonage).

I would say - give it six months or a year, and see what (a) market pressure does to customer service, as more companies start offering Voip, and (b) see if they figure out the data services stuff.

I say go for it. I've been with Vonage since 2002 and I've seen it only get better. Yeah, it has a few kinks here and there, but it's worth it!
It's hands down much better than it was 2 plus years ago.

Your experience is mostly dependent on the quality of your broadband service. I have got almost 20 people hooked on to Vonage in last 2 years. About 5 of them left - mostly because of cable company problems. In my situation, luckily, the cable broandband has been reasonably stable. I did have had to call the cable company a few times to fix some problems - how are you going to do that if there is no other phone available?
