Hi all,

I was having the random disconnect issue, and I set UPNP under the administration tab to disabled. It's now been two days and I have not had this issue, and when I enable it only then does it return.

If anyone who is having this issue wants to give it a try maybe it will help.

Just thought I'd share.

I just turned off upnp just before I read your post - now I am more hopeful it will make a difference. For the record, could you list the router & telephone adapter you are using?

I found that UPnP was causing random disconnects in my setup as well (about a year ago, or more now...). The reason it caused the disconnects was because every time the UPnP discovered another route, my router was rebooting itself. That, off course, caused the Vonage adapters to unregister and re-register.

Turn UPnP off, and I think you will likely find your problem disappear, like I did.

I use a Netgear router, by the way, but it seems reasonable that other routers would work the same way.

This does not help it any. The router should work period with it enabled or disabled. This issue is a joke already and just remember NOBODY CARES!

In spite of the encouraging words from markwi, I wanted to report back on the UPNP settings. Unfortunately turning it off hasn't solved my problem.

I have 10 to 15 seconds of dead air every ten or fifteen minutes on long calls. At this point I suspect my cable modem or the network upstream. I keep looking for some event that might have that periodicity that would affect my connection but haven't come up with anything yet.

I was having the same silence issue when talking with someone on calls. During busy times (3pm-7pm) when network traffic was high, I would be talking and the other person could not hear me even when I could hear them.

I found it to be a bandwidth upload issue. I had a motorola surfboard 4200 model modem which was only DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 compliant. This limited my upload speed since it did not support the current DOCSIS 2.0 speeds.

I just purchased a Linksys Cable modem BEFCMU10 version 3. This supports the higher speeds and when I went to speakeasy.net to run my comparison tests, I saw significant upload bandwidth increases.

In addition to the new modem, I logged into my Vonage site and changed my quality codec to 90 (maximum quality). I also changed my Linksys ATA Voice QoS settings to manual 180 kbs, not the default 256. That leaves me some available bandwidth for the overhead and pinging that it needs. I have comcast and they only support a maximum of 256k in my area, so if I were to take all of it, any other uploads would conflict.

Just a thought for clarity, hope this helps.
