Also, I don't know if anyone noticed this, but if you call into your local voicemail access number, it asks for your account number. This ALSO is the 11 digit phone number! It won't take 10.

Of course this totally throws off my phone as it looks for my area code (570) so it can do some assignment on things (ie.. during setup the phone ask what my area code was).. but it can't match...

Try deleting the local area code from your telephone setup. Then your phone might stop "adjusting" the number when it comes in and just pass it through with the leading "1". That fixed it for my phone.

Since Vonage doesn't care if you use 1+ dialing when calling it shouldn't break anything (you may need to reprogram your phone's memory locations to add a "1" in front of local numbers so that they match incoming CallerID info, but that would be a one time thing).

Worst case scenerio is that you would have to purchase a new phone. Good cordless phones run less than $70 now. Might be worth it to just get a new phone if this is causing a lot of stress.

Hope this helps.

Interestingly enough if I call a US Vonage number using a regular UK pots line the cli comes up as 144207xxxxxxx.

Fortunately I don't think that there is a US area code 442!

Perhaps it is the international country code prefix? The USA is code 1 while the UK is 44 which might explain the POTS number? But that still doesn't explain the spurious extra 1 Neutral But it looks on the surface to be:

'1' "country code" "number in country"

Area code 442 is the far north suburbs of San Diego, CA
