I used Vonage since 2005 with the good and bad phone quality. Lately all my calls were choppy, my area has just become to congested with all the network services. Also I got a Microcell so solves my mobile phone issue. When I went to cancel they tried to offer me really low rates after that failed told me about the charges I was going to incur to cancel. Everyone should call to cancel to get better rates.

My device broke last year after painfully dealing with tech support they sent me a new device and an RMA to return the old. Well now that I canceled they are charging me for the device and guess what they can't take it back? Funny I could return the broken one but can't send back the device they sent me back. Also wanted to charge me a disconnect fee, which they said my service will be disconnected immediately. I complained and was passed to a nice person to keep me and when I said I wanted to cancel turned rude and unhelpful and said I would be charged.

Goodbye and thanks for treating a customer of 5 years so nicely. I did recommend Vonage to friends, which I won't be doing anymore.

Sorry to hear of your issues.

However, all of that is covered in the Terms of Service. Whether you signed up over the phone, online or at a mall kiosk, the Terms of Service are presented to you before we can legally create your account. In the Terms of Service, we do mention the fee to disconnect, return the device, etc.

While your defective device was replaced free, per the Terms of Service, on the flip side you have to pay for the device when you cancel. Since you are canceling the device does not need to be returned, nor can it be.

I realize some of these policies may come as a shock to some but the every customer who has an account with Vonage, did agree to the Terms of Service prior to signing up and you can view the Terms of Service at any time at

Sadly most people never read it or just glance over it. My advice? The next phone company you go with, read their Terms of Service upfront. Seriously.

Not sure if I understand your post correctly. If you've been with Vonage for 5 years, there is no disconnect fee nor return equipment fees per terms of service. Those fees only apply to the first or second year of service. If you're being charged anything, simply file a credit card dispute. You will be credited for any improper charges.

Please see Terms of Service 6.3. By accepting a new ATA for free, you likely accepted another year commitment. This is just like the cell carriers. I bought my Vonage ATA outright from Best Buy back in the day to avoid this exactly thing. Mind you that was many moons ago. At any rate, I don't mean to come off rude, just a reminder to always read the fine print.
