I would like to do it right the first time. I've been reading about different setup, running speed test, etc, etc.
I'm going to bestbuy this afternoon, and want to start the Vonage experience.
I currently have a wireless "b", network used for surfing and online gaming when I have my kids.
Which is better?
Buy the normal Vonage adapter, and intergrate into existing home network... or
Buy the wireless "g" all in one solution, and replace current router (Netgear MR314)?
If I go the all in one solution, will the network peice of it work prior to Vonage activation? |

I am fairly new with Vonage as well... When I recieved the RT31P2 and hooked it up it had some background, hissing noise during a call. The fix for that was to make an RJ-11(reg. phone line) and short out the 2 & 3 wire (green/red) and connect it to port#2. Since you already have a router you might want to pick up a unit at bestbuy and have the Vonage experience immediately instead of waiting for the router to arrive 4-5 days later. If you decide to get the wireless phone adaptor the networking will work prior to activating... Hope this helps..... |

It all depends on what you want to do. If you have some wireless G network enabled computers, or even a single laptop, I strongly suggest the wrt54g or wrt54gs modle made by Linksys.
both routers have the ability to run custom code, although that does void your warrenty... read more at www.sveasoft.com, www.openwrt.org or http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net:82/
if you go with the linksys wrt54g/gs model as your main router, you can easily configure the Vonage Voip router behind it, you just need to NAT/port forward a few ports. |

I went with the Wireless "G" router.
First setup the network, as always, no problems from Linksys.
Then signed up for service. Before I could make it to the garage to connect a phone, it was active.
Wish me luck from here. Any tips moving forward are welcome.
Thanks for the input on my original post. |
