Has anyone been successful placing an analog modem call with 9600bps? The call goes through, but the handshake never completes.

That was the first thing I tried, but it did not work. Tech support also changed my packetization to 10ms, but that did not help either. |

well like bbtrumpetguy asked, what are you trying to do? a straight modem connect (i.e. dialup isp), fax, tivo, etc.? |

I am using the modem in my compter to connect directly to a modem elsewhere at 9600bps. There is a particular program that does the dialing. This is to monitor microwave devices. |

Don't count on it. I've tried everything down to 1200 bps and was never able to successfully negotiate a connection. Faxing works OK, though.

The inability to make modem calls stopped me from using Vonage until a couple of weeks ago when a client of mine that has Vonage was moving to a new location, so we tried to use a modem.
Using the *99 seemed to make the connections work. We tried them with my internal laptop modem and the extenal modem I use on my desktop. Both worked.
I went directly to my office and ordered Vonage!
To my surprise, when I set it up in MY office, the *99 didn't help my modem connections. What I had to do to make it works was to change my modem init string to include "n0 s37=9" 9=9600 6=2400 5=1200.
Give that a try and report back.
Hope it works for you.
