Most alarm users have the alarm system use a hard-line connection (Tel Co). Plain old telephone service with no features except touch tone if your alarm system requires tone service.
This means if the internet or the Vonage system goes down, the alarm equipment can communicate. The Tell Co lines have more reliability.
With this in mind, my alarm uses Vonage with no problems. However, there are some alarm system equipment that does not work with Voip, of which Vonage is a Voip.
My suggestion two-fold: (1) Check with your alarm equipment provider and ask their experience with Voip; and (2) Try Vonage and see if the system will communicate.
