Believe it or not, but you can't dial Pizza hut's 310-1010 number with Vonage (at least in Vancouver).
Give it a try, dial 604-310-1010, and let us know whether you can reach Pizza Hut to order a Pan Pizza! I'm interested to know if this is just my problem, a regional problem, or the same across Vonage.
Cheers, flxstr |

You cannot dial 310 numbers with Vonage. The reason is because a 310 number is a number is supposed to be universal to a particular company. In other words, it wouldn't matter if you were in Vancouver or Halifax. The number you would dial is 310-#### and you would get the nearest location to your calling origin. Vonage is an American company, so when you call a number, the circuitry in the background placing your call could be routed through cities in the US, and those cities would not know what phone to ring because they would not know for sure what city you are in. There are lots of cities with the BC area code 604. How would they know to put your call through to Vancouver Pizza Hut, or Victoria Pizza Hut, or Comox Pizza Hut?
If you want to call Pizza Hut, they should have a normal phone number that you can dial. Some cell phone providers won't work with 310 dialing either. |

Yup, doesn't work in Toronto either
I think all Vonage calls are routed through the same data center (in NY). Also, calling UPS screws up because UPS thinks it's an american call. |

Well this needs to be fixed for location based 911 anyways... so it could potentially fix 310-calling as well. |

It's a good point you made. Perhaps they will hook the 911 identification database in with the 310 numbers. I do not know if that is possible. There may be other reasons why 310 does not work through Vonage. |

I believe it's a similar issue. While 911 is a global call routing function in the switch, the 310 exchange is a local one. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that you can't call a 310 number outside of your area code. A 310 number is a Bell/Telus service and is routed locally in the exchange to either a 1-800 or a business line. That's why companies that have a service area in multiple area codes use this # instead of a 1-800 ; it's cheaper and routes to the nearest local outlet. |

Hmm, it took 1 month and 5 days to find a resolution to the problem. |

Pizza Hut DOES have local numbers you can call to place orders, they are in teh phone book, under Pizza Hut.
I got an e-mail from Vonage saying to send them a list of the 800 and 310 numbers that don't work and they might try to fix this issue..
I never did make that list yet tho... |

This issue exists with anybody that doesn't use MaBell as their CLEC.
My mother uses Sprint for her local service and we couldn't get through to Mamma's Pizza (310-MAMA) on Superbowl Sunday.
Having the direct # to the store is a better option anyway - if they get to know you they sometimes throw in freebies. |
