I am new and I just got the service this week. I currently use it thru my cable modem but I have a friend who lives in the sticks who can not get cable or dsl. He wants to know if this service can work with a regular phone line or with a dial up service.

Thank you for your help !!

Just to elaborate a little on David's reply. I think Vonage requires at LEAST a SUSTAINED 30kbps (upstream & downstream) connection on the lowest quality of service setting. I don't think I've ever seen an upstream speed of 30 kbps on dialup. Good Luck.

Louis, Thank you for your reply and your help.

It was nice of the site administrator to give such a intelligent explanation.

Sorry, I thought "Vonage® The Broadband Phone Company" spoke for itself.

I thought the site admin's very succinct reply was entirely appropriate considering that the Vonage customer's question was readily available on www.vonage.com ... on the first page no less!

From that page you'll see right in the very middle, "Use our #1 Voip network and get the most out of your phone and broadband internet service." Then, directly under it you see two links: "What is VoIP?" and "What is Broadband?". Clicking on "What is Broadband" gives you: "Broadband is high-speed Internet access such as through a Cable or DSL modem. It gives you a continuous connection to the Internet at speeds much faster than dial-up. You need a broadband connection to use Vonage because we insist on consistent high quality audio for all your calls."

When you combine the fact that the answer was smack dab on the middle of the first page for Vonage's web site, that an existing customer has to verify they don't have dial-up when signing-up for service, and that the post was specifically asking if Vonage service (not some other Voip provider) was available on dialup, well... I think "No" was actually a very nice thing to say!
