Recently Vonage made some system changes to their Call Forwarding feature. If you have the International Calling feature disabled, you cannot forward your Vonage number to an international number. This makes good sense! The problem with the Vonage Canada is that they forgot to include Canadian area codes in their list of valid numbers when the International Calling feature is disabled. If you have the feature disabled, you will not be able to Call Forward your Vonage number to telephone numbers in Canada. However you would have the ability to Call Forward your Vonage number to any telephone number in the United States. They will hopefully fix this problem, but it has been broken for 2 weeks now. To get around the problem, you must leave your International Calling enabled. This poses the problem where international calls can now be placed from your phone. If you want to test this, pay attention to the top of your screen after you click the activate button on the Call Forward screen. It will display the following message on the Call Forward screen:

Error
The following error(s) occurred:
Invalid phone number format

who in your house can you not trust to not dial an international number?

that does seem kinda weird tho, that they have CDN area codes as international, seeing as they have had Canada included in their free domestic LD since before they even offered service in Canada..

I do have parties sometimes!! Actually, I have friends who have toddlers who just love to play with the telephone or anything else that they can get their hands on. It's just having peace in knowing that there is nothing that anybody could do to place a toll charge to my line, and should the kids get access to one of my phones the moment my back is turned, I won't really care. Trust me, unless you've had a 2 year old, you would not know how quick and destructive they can be.

Keep in mind that you can travel with your phone adapter too, so it is not just the house that you need to worry about. In any case for whatever reason, one feature should not disable the other - don't you agree?

It is weird for sure that they forgot about us here in Canada. We have far less area codes than the US too!

I just performed a test right now, and it is still not working - 3 weeks after I've reported the problem. Oh well, I'll just leave the International Calling enabled until they fix it sometime this year hopefully. If anyone discovers that it is now working, please let me know. Smile

I am happy to say that Vonage has recently fixed this problem. Now in Canada, you can enable the International Calling Block feature, and still have the ability to Call Forward your Vonage Number to any phone number in Canada.

My sentiments exactly! When I noticed this was fixed, it gave me a strand of hope that they are trying to improve their Canadian Voip service.
