PostPosted: Fri Jan 28, 2005 5:44 pm    Post subject: Strange Character Showing On Caller-ID?? Reply with quote Back to top

I have had my service for about a week now and the service is great.
I am getting a strange character ( "¥" with two horizonal lines thru it) behind the lastname of the caller if it doesn't take up the whole caller id window. I have 2 Panasonic TGA520M Cordless phones and it shows up on both of them. This is starting to erk me...

Anyone heard of this or know if it will stop? Is there something I can do? I have rebooted the cable modem and router and still same problem.

Thanks for any help

apparently this is a problem that has been going on for a while. obviously it's never been fixed. I get the backslash but have never seen the yen.

Until reading this posting, I thought it normal. Just one of those things, a glitch in the system. I'd get that Y shape thingy never knowing where it came from. The phone? A little bleed through from a download? A hiccup on a power supply? At least now, I know I'm not alone!

I am in the same boat. It's not big deal, as long as I get the name.

Odd! I get the same Yen and Slash issue, but only with one or two callers. The vast majority of residential callers display normally.

EDIT: It seems only people who call me from New York metro show up with a Yen and Slash. I'm sure it's just coincidence, but others in Florida and others with mobile phones show up with their names...

I mainly got it with t-mobile cell phones (backslash), then it recently went away and I haven't seen it again yet.

Any time there is a comma in the name sting, my display has a backslash in it. So if the display name is "DOE, JOHN" my display will show it as "DOE\, JOHN" It wastes one of the 15 characters of the caller-id but I like it better than the quotation marks around the name that my old Cisco ATA used to put on it.
