I will try to make the very complicated setup as uncomplicated as possible...
In one far corner of the house, we have a room which currently has the activated Vonage phone jack, the permanently-installed panel for the alarm system, the activated cable jack for the modem, the modem, and the router.
In the other far corner of the house is me. Separating us are 70 feet with 5 walls (one that has metal about 3 feet of the way up in it for some reason?) and a central A/C unit.
The activated jacks for the Vonage and cable, and the panel for the alarm system cannot be moved. I get little to no signal and TONS of disconnects in my room because of all of the junk and metal between me and the router. I purchased a 5-port switch so that all of these permanent things could be plugged into it, and then could have a single eth cable running down the hall to another room with the router in it.
It worked- almost. All wireless internet connections are fine, and the alarm system seemed to have a connection because it wasn't beeping at us like it does when we unplug cables. However, the Vonage system couldn't find an internet signal.
While I know I got lucky that the switch connected the router and alarm system, why won't the Vonage system connect? What is my best bet in this situation, or am I pretty much stuck with everything how it is now?
Thanks in advance. |

Don't you mean: cable running down the hall to another room with the *switch* in it.
The router is before the switch, right?
I think you need to get another router with no wireless for the "room" and move your current wireless router "down the hall"
If that's way off then your problem isn't clear to me, A wiring diagram would be helpfull. - |
