Hi! I've signed up for Vonage, and received the "Linksys RT31P2" to connect to the service. I've followed the following directions exactly without much success.

This configuration is for the Linksys RT31P2 Phone Adapter.

1. Disconnect the power from all devices on your network. This includes your Cable/DSL modem, and computer.

2. Disconnect any USB cables from the Cable/DSL modem, if present.

3. Connect an Ethernet cable from the Cable/DSL modem’s Ethernet port to the WAN port on the Phone Adapter.

4. Connect an Ethernet cable from the PC port, on the Phone Adapter, to the Ethernet port, on the computer.

5. Connect a telephone to the PHONE 1 port of the Phone Adapter using a standard phone line.

6. Connect the appropriate Power cable to the Cable/DSL modem.

7. Wait about two minutes for the Cable/DSL modem to boot up, before continuing.

8. Connect the Power cable provided with the Phone Adapter to the POWER port on the Phone Adapter.

9. Wait at least five minutes for the Phone Adapter to boot up. The Phone Adapter’s status light will blink in sequence until it has fully connected to the Vonage network. There may be updates that need to be downloaded such as new firmware or changes to your features. Do not interrupt the configuration process by unplugging the power or lifting the receiver on your phone during the startup process. Interruption of the startup may result in interruption of service.

10. Once the Phone Adapter’s status light is off, the Phone Adapter is ready to use.

11. Pick up your telephone receiver and listen for a dial tone. If you hear a dial tone, you have finished the installation and can begin making calls

I do have the dial tone, but can not make any outgoing calls. I'll get a busy signal, followed by a beeping sound.
I can make some incoming calls, but so far only with my cell phone. Nobody with a land line phone can get through! It will sometimes ring once, then say to call the toll free number 1-800- 860-1020 the then the number 186 before going back to a dial tone. I've called this number, and it was a automated system for a company called "Quest."
There are some numbers listed on my Vonage web account in the "Dashboard" section....both incoming and outgoing....though only for some of the calls.
I can't ever get through to Vonage support via e-mail. And the two times I tried to call support via phone....I gave up after almost an hour on hold! I sure would appreciate any help from one of you guys. Been real frustrating!!! Eek

interesting. fwiw, that 800# is for qwest, a telephone (and other stuff) company. it looks like the number you were assigned was recently disconnected to me. how long ago did you sign up? if it's been a few days/weeks, which I suspect it has since you have the RT31P2, you're probably going to have to talk to Vonage about it. there's apparently routing issue with some or most telco switches with that number that probably should have been fixed/updated by now.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll have to try and contact Vonage again eventually. It's just such a pain being put on hold forever!
At first when you mentioned that the phone number may have been recently disconnected, it sounded logical, except when I called the number again with my cell, I could still connect to it. (Then I would still get the toll free "Qwest" number when trying with the land line.)

Your phone adapter probably did not take either the firmware or the configuration properly. I actually work for techinical support here at Vonage. If anyone is having serious problems and is not being able to get through you can PM me and I will do my best to help.

As far as this issue goes, what's your account number? I can look up the status of the line and the phone adapter.

I just changed my number today cause I was getting calls that were not for me. I called Vonage to change my # and reverse the charge as they did, but now my new number cannot except or make calls. When trying to call it gets a fast busy signal, Incoming goes to my cell since I have it set up that way if systems are down.. Any suggestion's?, thanks in advance...

what adaptor is it? if it's the RT31P2 go to 192.168.15.1 and see what it says under status.

It is the RT31P2... Yeah I went thru all of that with tech support and still did not work... I finally got it to work after hanging up with them... I did not do anything different from what they told me to do, but it finally kicked it when I checked the status of line 1...

1: did the factory defaults about 2-3 times on the router thru 192.168.15.1
2: unplugged the adaptor and modem for about 2 min and unplugged everything. (pwr,phone line, cat5...)
3: Plugged everthing back in, picked up the cordless dialed *123 and bam went thru... Checked the status on line thru linksys and showed back on line...

Hope this helps others.. Not sure if these steps will help others or maybe it was just a fluke, but it does not hurt to try....
