I tried going to AT&T's call vantage site (their Voip thing) and i typed in my number and it says I can be moved...
Does this hint that Vonage actually supports LNP for Voip to Voip? |

no it simply means at&t offers that area code and exchange. this has been much discussed at dslreports, and this *seems* to be the latest info. basically, if a Voip provider assigns you a number, it's not really your number, it's the Voip companies. this explains why caller id name isn't entered (or is entered as the company it is really assigned to such as Vonage holdings). the main issue here is Vonage may assign you a new number, but they aren't an ilec or clec. thus, they get the number from a clec, then they give it to you. but you are not the customer of record. Vonage is. with a traditional telco, you are the customer of record and can port your number as you please. with Voip, you can probably transfer your number if they please. I have only seen confirmed Voip to Voip lnp's from broadvox over at dslreports. many people have xferd pots to Voip to Voip, but that's not the issue at hand. and great idea with the lawsuit. it's that kind of stuff that is going to get Voip regulated and back up to the $10+ tax per month. |
