Hello all,
I've got one for you phone wiring pros out there. Before Vonage, I had two lines in my home, line 1 - personal and line 2 - business. Phone wiring in my home is all CAT 5 wired to a central box in my basement, and set up so that line 2 used to use the 2nd pair of wires (orange and white) throughout the home. I used a Uniden 2-line phone and everything (except the price) worked well for me.
I transferred only line 2 to Vonage and now want to wire to existing phone jacks. I can verify that my router is set up and working correctly by plugging a test phone into the router - I can place and receive calls. Since I can look inside the box in my basement and see 4 pairs of wires going to a wiring terminal labeled "from telco", I figured this would be easy.
So far I have tried plugging one end of a phone cable into my router and stripping the wires at the other end (there are only 2 wires in this phone cable). I then connected the 2 wires to where orange and white connect to the "from telco" wiring terminal. No dial tone.
I'm aware that I only know enough to get me in trouble and that my ignorance may be showing - any help out there? |

Are your "from telco" terminals disconnected from the outside wiring? You only want the TA to be connected to the wiring inside your house. If it connects to the outside, bad things happen. |

Yep - I disconnected it outside at the Interface. |

Rookie mistake - I had the pair of wires punched down backwards. Sorry for the wild goose chase, but I guess maybe it's good for everyone to know this can be done! |
