We have a really really old Vtech portal thing and Vtech phone that goes with it from Vonage, the phone is really messed up now. The batterys never work right, brand new ones act like old ones. You can never hear the phone ringing the volume on it is horrible.
We are thinking of upgrading to the new V-portal, I have some questions.
1. Is the new V-portal going to work for us without changing our current Vonage plan?
2. When I go to the "upgrade portal" section on the Vonage website it says "" This selection does not support the same functionality as the current adapter. If you make this selection the following capabilities will be lost:
Cordless Handsets
Are you sure you would like to make this change? ""
What does this mean? I cant use wireless phones anymore? or does it mean that it doesnt come with a wireless phone and I have to buy one( anyone from a store) to go with it.
3. Are there any extra fees for using this rather than the old vtech one?
We really need a better phone.. I can talk maybe 20 mins on the phone before it dies and I call canada a lot to speak with family. We always miss phone calls because the ringer is pretty much non existant and replacing batterys is a joke. New ones don't work. Also my family has started saying they can barely hear us on the phone when we call and it sounds all crackle sounding. |

The current V-Portal is a router and an analog telephone adapter (ATA). It is not a cordless base station. It presents you with an RJ-11 phone jack (or two of them, if you subscribe to two lines). You may plug in a conventional corded telephone, or the base station of a cordless telephone. If you want cordless, you'll have to provide a cordless base and one or more compatible handsets.
The V-Portal also presents an ethernet port where you may plug in a PC or an ethernet hub or switch and multiple PCs on a LAN. When used in this way (as a router) it prioritizes voice traffic over other Internet traffic if your PCs are active while you're on the phone.
There may be a one-time charge for the V-Portal, but it should not affect your monthly subscription plan cost. |
