I have two Vonage lines running through one VT1002 box. Been that way for 5 years. The main line I use had been passing inbound caller-id with no problem but now it's stopped working within the last few weeks. The other line if working great and inbound callerid is not a problem.

Any suggestions why one works and the other does not?

thanks

Is the caller ID display on the phone? If you switch phones does the issue follow the phone?

I have a CallerID display on the phone.

Line A is connected to the phone, line B is connected to a FAX machine. I used the Fax machine to call line A using line B. Call did not show callerID. I used the home phone line to call the phone (connected to line A), again CallerID did not come through. I then switched the two lines so B is now connected to the phone and line A to the FAX. I then used both the FAX and Home phone to call the B line. Both calls came in with CallerID.

I then did the same thing after i removed any other phones that where connected to the same line and did the calling again. Wanted to make sure there was no issue with any other phones creating a conflict. Same thing happened, using line A to recieve the calls I was never able to see CallerID.

I also used the line A phone to call the home phone, and used the FAX with line B to call the home phone, CallerID came through both times.

I even put a brand new phone for the line A, again no callerID

so Net/Net when using line A, callerID never came through

Any ideas?

The phone jacks on the Vonage device are labeled Phone 1 and Phone 2, not A or B. I'm assuming that your references to A and B are actually to Phone 1 and Phone 2.

If Phone 1 is configured by Vonage as a fax line, then it will not have the Caller*ID, 3-way calling, call-waiting, or call-transfer features. There may be other differences. One fax line is free on business service. All fax lines are less expensive than a voice line on residence service. See what other features are missing from Phone 1. If it's configured as a fax line and if you ordered it as a voice line, then the order was probably mis-entered. If it was ordered as a fax line, then perhaps you're getting what you're paying for.

on the A/B vs 1/2, you are right I was just using them as reference for which line.

On the issue of one being a FAX line or not. They where both ported over from AT&T (Ameritech back then) as voice lines. I know they give you a break on a FAX line but that was only valid if they came up with the number. If you ported an existing number there was just a small second line discount. So both lines are set up as voice and I just happen to be using the second line for a FAX because I wanted to keep my existing numbers. The line I'm using as a FAX has all the features you mentioned, and it's the line that callerID comes through on. Also remember that callerID had been coming thru the other line with no problems. It just stopped maybe two or three weeks ago.

I did an addiitonal test. I took a phone that supports callerID and directly connected it to the Vonage adapter for both lines 1 and 2 directly so I'd bypass the home wireing. One line worked perfectly, the other did not pass callerID on to the phone. So my issue has to be how it's configured at Vonage either by them or by me if you have some to screw it up changing the features on the web page.

So any suggestions?

In that case, I suggest calling Vonage tech support. If they don't find and fix a mis-configuration on your account, then you probably have a defective ATA.

Well I determined what was going on, but not sure how to fix it.

I've been using a VT1005 with two active lines. The line on the first port just stopping callerid to my phones. The phone on the second line has always been passing callerID to it's phone. I was thinking somehow Vonage had provisioned the one line wrong some how.

I had a Linksys PAP2 in the closet I hadn't used so I added/moved the line assigned to the VT1005 on the second port over to the PAP2. It worked fine. I think took the line assigned to the first port of the VT1005 and moved it to the second port of the VT1005. CallerID came through everytime. So the line that wasn't working when on Port 1 is not working on Port 2 for inbound CallerID.

So the net issue is that for some reason Port 1 of the VT1005 is not passing callerID on to the phone. I used the web access for the box to see if there was any option to set or reset that functionaility. There is none for callerID but you can do a general reset, which I did. But it made no difference.

So I've got one line going to Port 2 of the VT1005 and one line going to port 1 of the PAP2 and both are working great. If anyone knows how to do a hard reset for the VT1005, otherwise I run with two contollers or both both lines over to the PAP2. Any thoughts on use two vs one controller? I'm thinking if I stay with two I can always take one number with me when I travel.

As I wrote yesterday, you have a defective ATA. Perhaps it's under warranty?
