I purchased the PAP2 kit at Best Buy on Sunday. Things went fairly smoothly with the activation and I was able to get a dial tone almost immediately. Unfortunately, no matter what I dial, I get a fast busy signal.

The PAP2 sits behind my Linksys 54WRTGS router. It has it's own static IP address (set through the interactive phone menu). I've forwarded all the requested ports to it. I've even tried setting it up as the DMZ. Nothing works. Only 2 of the 4 LEDs is lit, and neither of the port LEDs is lit.

I'm on Austin Roadrunner.

I spoke to customer "service" on Sunday night and was promised that someone from tech support would get back to me within a day. I also tried the email route. So far, nothing. I tried calling back customer service again today and get a busy signal after navigating through the menu.

I understand that there may be growing pains, but so far I'm not impressed.

Any help would be appreciated.

it can't connect to the internet, that's your issue. what you may want to try is connecting it directly to the cable modem, letting it update itself, and then try again. it's apparently having a problem with the static ip...do you not use dhcp?

Thanks for the tip, it worked like a champ! I was even able to switch back to a static IP address afterwards (so that I could forward the ports).

I have a similar problem. I have a dial tone, but do not have, and have never had a phone 1 led lightup. I tried setting a static ip address. I tried hooking the PAP2 directly up to my Motorola Surfboard Modem. No luck. No matter what I do, I cannot get the phone 1 led to light up.

Do I have a broken PAP2? Or should I try something else?

you went to vonage.com/activate right?
your problem is common when an incorrect mac id is entered, so check that out.

I had verified that earlier in the day with Vonage. (That was among the 2nd days things I tried)

I really do (and once I finally was able to talk to Vonage - they do too) think I have a broken PAP2. I just went back to my old configuration, and will return/replace my PAP2 and try again sometime.

I had somewhat similar problems during my initial setup of my pap2. I would get dial tone, I would get fast busy signal 99% of the time, I could not place outbound calls, however inbound would sometimes work. After calling Vonage and the wait for a rep, they had me switch between phone port 1 and 2, got things working on port 2 then switched me back to port 1 and have had zero problems since.
