I've been reading through the forum and plan to sign up for Vonage by the weekend. Just having trouble deciding what hardware to purchase. I don't need a wireless router, so my choices appear to be the PAP2 or the Motorola.
I've read about the line noise issues with the PAP2, but have also read how to fix the problem myself. But how is the Motorola hardware?
Regarding the Linksys wireless G router, what are the specs on it? I currently have a USR G router and USR cards on my network at home. What speeds is the Linksys able to achieve?
Thanks. |

The moto Vt1000 is impossible to get. Radio shack is the only place to get them, and every single location appears to not have them. They look to be discontinued. You also have the Linksys RT31P2 which is free direct from Vonage. Its a wired router, and unlike the PAP2 can go BEFORE your existing wireless router, like I'm going to do for best sound quality. |

The Radio Shack 5 minutes from me has the Motorolas. I was stopped in 2 hours ago when picking up a pizza next door. $79.95 and has a $79.95 rebate. They also have the PAP2 and the wireless Linksys.
The wired Linksys sounds interesting. I'll have to check out those links everyone just listed to try to decide which hardware has can provide the best call quality.
Thanks. |

If you do not need wireless (but ask yourself why not plan for the future before you answer this) then just take the free gateway/router from Vonage, which is a Linksys router anyhow.
Do consider the Linksys/Vonage 802.11g 2.4GHz router from Best Buy or direct from Linksys.com before you make your final decision.
I found I could not reverse power my phone system: i.e. RJ 11 phone cord from router/gateway to wall RJ 11 jack and therefore connect all existing phones to Vonage.
So I went to Uniden.com and bought a rebuilt cordless base station and 4 cordless phones and spread them around the home. Only the base station connects to the Linksys/Vonage router/gateway and all the phones access the one Vonage line for anytime/anywhere free calling. If you ever anticipate needing 2 Vonage lines, make sure you buy a cordless base station from Uniden.com which accepts 2 lines.
Good luck, drcpe |
