Post subject: Got a message of usage from Vonage ?
Hi, I recently got a
Vonage
Voip
, last month. I took it solely to talk to my family, and trust me i have my family all spread around and i love talking to them everyday.
I received an email from
Vonage
today, telling me that my use is not consistent and i should talk to them at once, about switching to the business plan. I am not sure, why am i getting this ? I thought
Vonage
was unlimited. I am not dialing random number or anything, if i take a look at my bill, i have just few definite numbers which i call.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me with this problem.
Thanks
Pun
FYI - I have a $24.00
Vonage
World Plan.

That's what most people think. That's what
Vonage
advertises. That is false advertising, however. To
Vonage
, unlimited means 5,000 minutes per month (about 2 hours 45 minutes per day). If you pay about $50/month for business service, unlimited has a more generous definition.

Post subject: Applies to outbound usage
While
Vonage
does advertise unlimited usage, the 5,000 minute cap refers to outbound usage. If you are using more than 5,000 minutes a month, outbound, then that is not consistent with residential usage. That is considered business usage.
Vonage
is not the only type of provider that does this. Ever use to much bandwidth from your internet provider???

Vonage
legitimately does allow Unlimited usage so long as it is consistent with residential usage. the 5,000 minutes is not a cap but a reference point. If your usage exceedes 5,000 minutes you will be investigated by the internal fraud department. If however upon investigation your usage shows to be purely residential, you will not be forced to upgrade. If your use is not consistent with residential, then you will be forced to upgrade to business.
