My family overseas is trying to set up Linksys wrt54gp2 and they changed router's IP address so it wasn't responding to standard config. They had to do a hard reset on it back to default settings... Will it screw up Vonage settings? I had it running over here, dial tone, phone calls and everything, along with all other settings. Now they report having a dial tone, but can't connect. Me dialing the Vonage number gets me nowhere. Vonage tech support - 1 hr, 24 min on hold and counting, no response. Also their connection slowed down to a crawl with the router added in the mix... |

a reset won't screw up any Vonage settings per se. it should still be able to connect and work as long as it has an internet connection. what's needed is an explanation of their network setup, and what exactly happens when they try to make a call (and what exactly happens when you call them?) also, if you haven't seen this yet (from the Vonage dashboard): At this time we are experiencing difficulty with the Northern Telecom switch in our call center. As a result, some callers are being disconnected or experiencing longer than normal hold times when attempting to speak with our Customer Care department. Your phone service will not be affected by this issue. We are working on the problem and hope to have this resolved shortly. In the interim, you may wish to access online help from the Learning Center at the Help page of our website. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. |

Explanation of their setup - posted earlier in another thread:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic12264.html#12264
external antenna for wireless signal ---> DLINK DWL wireless bridge ----> linksys wrt54gp2 router---> computer, phone.
They are saying they are getting a dial tone but when they dial a number it's completely silent. I have my own number set up for network availability number in their set up, so it just forwards right back to me.
I finally got through to Vonage tech, he said that Linksys WRT54GP2 will give you a "Fake" dial tone even if there is no connection and it is mostly likely that's what they are hearing. I have never heard about a "fake" dial tone before, I have a Cisco ATA 186 myself. With that, if you don't have a connection, you don't get a dial tone, period!
They also haven't seen the unit online since I had it here for set up two weeks ago.
I am getting awful ping results back from their IP as well:
Ping #1: Got reply from <edited out> in 202ms [TTL=110] Ping #2: Got reply from <edited out> in 706ms [TTL=110] Ping #3: Got reply from <edited out> in 250ms [TTL=110] Ping #4: Got reply from <edited out> in 512ms [TTL=110]
I am not sure what to think, if their wireless ISP is blitzed, or if it's a router problem or something else...
I am beginning to think that the other suggestion of two network cards may be a better way to go. That also means that I wasted a lot of money on the bridge and the router, instead of no bridge and a free ATA from Vonage. Not to mention cost of international calls to set all this stuff up that still doesn't work. |
