Got bumped off tech support three times today so I'll ask this here:
I have a vt1005v connected with 2 phone lines, one fax and one normal. I want to add a second NIC, a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 USB to allow my laptop to access the internet over a home network. Is there a setting in my router config that I have to add or change to allow this adapter to connect. So far it can't resolve an IP if connected in the usual way. Any help is appreciated. The NIC is plugged into a USB hub and my computer recognizes it but I can't get it to resolve an IP. My phones work and my main machine connects to the web just fine I just can't get a signal to my laptop.. I'm thinking that there is something in the Vonage router config that I have to do. This is driving me nuts. |

can you explain your network setup exactly? (i.e. cable modem to this to that to the other) it sounds like you're trying to get two ip's from your isp when they only provide you with one. even if not, I don't think this has anything to do with the Vonage device. (it sounds like you need a router, but a better network description will help. the vt1005 is not a router.) |

Yes I understand but this network has worked without the Vonage "modem" in the past.
cable modem to WAN on VT1005 PC port on VT1005 to PC phone to phone fax to fax The above all works perfectly
Linksys USB Fast Ethernet to USB port CAT5 from Linksys to Laptop
I have also used a 4 port router in the past but would rather not because of port forwarding issues with my server.
Thanks for listening. |

I apologise for wasting your time. It just occurred to me that I used a switch with this setup. Senior moment. Thanks for the help. |
