Hi Vonage experts,
A long time ago, someone helped set up my computer network, and now I need to do something, but I don't know how. I know the solution must be extremely simple, but I just don't know what to do.
Basically, I have:
- a computer - a Vonage modem - an SMC wireless router - a cable Internet modem
As I'm writing, I keep going back and forth to look at the set up, to make sure that I'm writing a really accurate description. The way the system is set up is:
1. An ethernet cable connects the cable modem to the Internet port of the Vonage modem
2. An ethernet cable connects the LAN port of the Vonage modem to the "LAN 3" port of the SMC wireless router
3. An ethernet cable connects the "LAN 4" port of the SMC wireless router to my computer
4. A phone cord connects the Phone 1 port of the Vonage modem to my telephone
Note 1: nothing goes to the WAN port of the SMC wireless router. Note 2: the Vonage modem is set to DHCP Note 3: the LAN configuration of my computer says "Obtain an IP address automatically" and also "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
I know how to access the Vonage configuration page, which is by going to 192.168.15.1 on my web browser. But that's not what I need.
What I need help with is: now I need to access the SMC wireless router's configuration page, but I am stuck, because:
a. I don't know which IP address I should type, in order to access the SMC configuration page. Is there a precise way to know what it is?
b. I'm not sure whether or not I have to somehow (temporarily) modify the set up of the cables among those 4 devices. If not, great, but if yes, what do I do exactly?
Thanks! |

Q1: What model SMC Q2: What network IP address are the computers (wired and wireless)obtaining via DHCP?
From your description of the physical Ethernet connections the SMC router is being used as a switch only, and the telephone adapters router is providing the IPv4 addressing via its DHCP server. You can confirm this If Q2 answer is the 192.168.15.0 255.255.255.0 network and the default gateway is 192.168.15.1
As for connecting to the SMC configuration interface you can log-in to the Vonage admin and check for connected devices. Compare the MAC address' with the SMC MAC address to learn the IP address in use for that MAC address. If I had to guess 192.168.15.254 would be what I would have set-up for the SMC admin address.
I hope this helps
