Hey,
I am trying to hard-wire my whole house to my Vonage line, and I have read the other forum topics as well as the information at michigan-telephone (http://michigantelephone.workbench.net), but I have still been unable to successfully route my lines.
I have a wire coming from Verizon, which is the standard blue and blue/white colour. It connects to the lightning protector under my house, to both screw terminals. I have 1 phone line, but 2 phone cables running into my house, kitchen & office, respectfully.
At this time, both phone cables and the blue/blue-white cables are all disconnected so I can have a fresh start. I don't dare to mess with any of the 2 lightning protectors on top of the bottom two screw terminals.
When connected to the lightning protector, both phone cables have the old coloured "green, red, black, yellow" combination, and on both screw terminals, connecting with only red and green, and two black wires (I don't know what they are).
How can I disconnect from Verizon, still keep the grounding (I just got shocked when I was messing with the left screw term and accidentally touched the black and red wires), and use my 2nd phone cable (office) to send out Vonage signal across the house?
I am also confused about how all the circular washers and hexagonal washers are supposed to be organised.
Thanks everyone.

Leave the incoming lines from the street connected to the protector terminals; this is a safety issue.
Disconnect the red and green wires leading into your house from the protector terminals; this is to prevent feeding Vonage dial tone out to the street and to your previous telephone company.
You can use the other pair of protector terminals to connect the two phone cables going into your house to each other. Connect the two red wires to one terminal; the two green wires to the other terminal. Then, at some convenient point inside your house, connect a two-wire modular telephone cord between the Phone port on your Vonage device and one of your existing telephone jacks. You should then find Vonage dial tone on all of the other jacks in the house.
If you need to use a telephone set at the same jack where you have plugged the cord from the Phone port of the Vonage device, use a Y-splitter at the jack.
All of the above assumes that you are not using the existing phone line for any purpose. If you have DSL service on that circuit, then things get more complex. Post again if you need help with that scenario. |
