Post subject: Guess what my POTS did!!
Prior to switching to
Vonage
, I had two lines with Verizon.
One was my "Main number" last digits 44, and the other was 47.
My account number was basically my main number with some extra alphanumeric characters at the end.
So when I switched to
Vonage
, I wanted to only dump 44 from Verizon and use that for
Vonage
. I wanted to keep 47 with Verizon.
So I signed up with Vonage...did a number port for 44.
That all went fine.
Verizon closed out my 44 account and created a new one for 47.
I got my first bill for the new 47 account....
They whacked me with a $40 "Telephone Number Connection" fee!!!
What the heck is that all about!??!?! I already had that number!
I'm guessing it was generated because a new account number had to be generated since 44 was no longer on their system.
I am NOT going to pay $40 because they stupidly use my phone number as my account number! I am a computer programmer, so I deal with customer accounts all the time. We NEVER use anything volitale as an account identifier, like a phone number. The POTS should know better than anyone that people change phone numbers all the time. Why would they use the phone number as the way to identify my account with them?
Anyway... I'm going to call them as soon as they open. Speaking of which... didn't they used to have 24/7 customer service?
I'm so glad I switched to
Vonage
